Job DetailsLevel: ExperiencedJob Location: AUSTIN, TX 78734Position Type: Full TimeSalary Range: $32.23 - $40.29 HourlyClass Title: IT / Network Administrator EEOC: Administration FLSA: Non-Exempt Summary of Position: Under limited supervision, the IT / Network Administrator maintains, manages, and supports daily operations for highly reliable network and wireless systems. This role ensures seamless connectivity across water, wastewater, and administrative operations using broad technical expertise and up-to-date industry knowledge. Organizational Relationships: Reports to: IT / SCADA Supervisor Directs: This is a non-supervisory position Other: Has contact with District employees, the public, consultants, contractors, and suppliers Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Tests, evaluates, procures, configures, and maintains network, telephony, and wireless hardware and software. 2. Performs routine diagnostics and testing to resolve network and telephony issues promptly. 3. Conducts health checks, optimizes network bandwidth, performs sizing estimates, and assists with solution-based cost analyses. 4. Enforces network security protocols and ensures strict adherence to organizational policies, standards, and regulatory requirements. 5. Contributes to disaster recovery definitions, network test plans, lifecycle forecasting, and system retirement strategies. 6. Partners with internal departments and project teams to schedule and communicate network installations and updates. 7. Monitors vendor deliverables against service level agreements (SLAs) and assists in managing the hardware inventory. Knowledge:

  • Networking and telephony operating systems, protocols, and monitoring tools.
  • Network capacity planning and internet connectivity standards.
  • Industry and departmental best practices, security standards, and policies.

Skill In:

  • Designing, installing, and maintaining telecommunications links and network equipment.
  • Analyzing bandwidth requirements, adjusting capacity, and evaluating system interdependencies.
  • Utilizing effective training methods to onboard team members or adopt new technologies.

Ability To:

  • Diagnose and resolve complex operational issues using structured problem-solving approaches.
  • Identify customer needs and deliver timely, practical solutions.
  • Adapt quickly to emerging technologies, identifying both localized issues and broader trends.
  • Communicate technical concepts clearly to diverse audiences and collaborate across teams.
  • Maintain trust, reliability, and confidentiality across all professional interactions.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Two (2) years of education from an accredited college or university in a field related to the job plus two (2) years of related experience.
  • Experience may substitute for education up to two (2) years.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Must possess a valid Texas Class C Driver’s License

Physical Demands:

  • Requires moderate physical effort involving kneeling, crouching, crawling, lifting/pushing/carrying objects up to 50 lbs

Dexterity:

  • Must perform coordinated movements involving placing and turning motions

Sensory Requirements:

  • Must be able to perceive and distinguish colors, sounds, and communicate clearly

Work Environment:

  • Regular exposure to adverse environmental conditions including dirt, dust, humidity, fumes, noise, electrical currents, moving machinery, traffic hazards, toxic substances, and confined spaces.
