Position Summary 

Southern Mechanical is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Plumbing Senior Project Manager to join our team. The Senior Project Manager will oversee commercial plumbing projects from preconstruction through completion, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality. 

The ideal candidate has strong commercial plumbing experience, excellent project management skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects, customers, subcontractors, vendors, and internal teams.

What You’ll Do 

Project Management 

  • Manage commercial plumbing projects from contract award through final completion and closeout
  • Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, and manpower plans
  • Coordinate project activities with field personnel, customers, general contractors, subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers
  • Monitor project progress and identify potential delays, cost issues, and risks
  • Ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and according to contract requirements
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining strong attention to detail
  • Conduct and participate in project meetings and coordination meetings
  • Maintain accurate project documentation throughout the project lifecycle 

Preconstruction & Estimating 

  • Review plans, specifications, contracts, and project requirements
  • Assist with plumbing estimates, budgets, scopes of work, and proposals
  • Participate in project handoff meetings from estimating/preconstruction to operations
  • Identify potential scope gaps, conflicts, constructability issues, and change-order opportunities
  • Review drawings and coordinate plumbing systems with other trades
  • Assist with value engineering and cost-saving opportunities

Financial Management 

  • Develop and maintain project budgets and cost projections
  • Monitor labor, material, equipment, subcontractor, and other project costs
  • Review job cost reports and identify variances
  • Manage purchase orders, subcontracts, invoices, and vendor commitments
  • Prepare and manage change orders, including pricing, documentation, and customer approval
  • Track project profitability and take corrective action when necessary

Field & Construction Coordination 

  • Work closely with Plumbing Superintendents, Foremen, and field technicians to ensure proper project execution
  • Review manpower requirements and coordinate labor resources
  • Ensure materials, equipment, and prefabricated components are available when needed
  • Resolve field issues and coordinate solutions with project stakeholders
  • Review RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, and other project documentation
  • Coordinate inspections, testing, commissioning, and project closeout

Safety & Quality 

  • Promote and maintain a strong safety culture throughout all projects
  • Ensure work is performed in accordance with company safety policies and applicable OSHA requirements
  • Monitor project quality and ensure work complies with plans, specifications, codes, and contract requirements
  • Support quality-control procedures and resolve deficiencies promptly

Project Closeout 

  • Manage punch-list completion and final inspections
  • Coordinate commissioning, testing, and required documentation
  • Ensure operation and maintenance manuals, warranties, as-builts, and other closeout documents are completed
  • Assist with final billing, retainage, and project financial closeout
  • Conduct post-project reviews to identify lessons learned and opportunities for improvement

What You’ll Bring 

Required 

  • Minimum 7 years of commercial plumbing construction experience
  • Minimum 5 years of project management experience in commercial plumbing or mechanical construction
  • Strong knowledge of commercial plumbing systems, construction processes, and project delivery
  • Experience managing project budgets, schedules, change orders, and job costs
  • Ability to read and interpret plumbing drawings, specifications, contracts, and construction documents
  • Strong understanding of construction sequencing and coordination with other trades
  • Excellent communication, organization, negotiation, and leadership skills
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel and Outlook
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Valid driver's license

Preferred 

  • Experience with multi-floor tension
  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, Engineering, Business, or a related field
  • Experience with large commercial plumbing projects
  • Experience with healthcare, hospitality, high-rise, multifamily, institutional, or other complex commercial construction
  • Experience with construction management/project management software
  • Familiarity with estimating and takeoff software
  • Experience with BIM/VDC and coordination platforms
  • Plumbing license or relevant industry certification

Work Environment 

This role includes a combination of office and active construction jobsite environments. Candidates should be comfortable visiting jobsites regularly and working in varying weather and construction conditions. Occasional overtime may be required based on project demands and schedules.
