Senior Product Designer
Position Summary
MacroHealth is seeking a Senior Product Designer who excels at uniting craft and systems thinking. In this role, you will transform complex healthcare analytics into user experiences that provide clarity, foster understanding, and enable informed decision-making. You will establish and evolve our product’s visual and interaction language, and own the design system to ensure consistency and scalability as we grow.
You’ll collaborate closely with our User Experience and Design lead, and partner with product managers and engineers from initial concept through to launch. AI will be an integral part of your toolkit, supporting and enhancing your design process.
As part of a small, foundational team, the standards and patterns you set will have a lasting impact on the future of design at MacroHealth.
What You’ll Do:
- Design end-to-end product experiences, shaping concepts, structuring products, and refining detailed interactions through to launch.
- Simplify complex healthcare data by designing for clarity, comparison, and the critical decisions users need to make with confidence.
- Collaborate with data analysts to craft actionable, insight-driven workflows that integrate analytics into decision-making processes.
- Build prototypes at varying fidelities—using tools like Figma, AI, or code—that are usable for customer testing and internal alignment.
- Define and maintain the product's visual language, including typography, color, layout, density, motion, and iconography.
- Own and continually improve our Figma-based design system, deciding what becomes standard, scaling components and libraries, and documenting for both people and AI use.
- Bake accessibility into every aspect of our product and design system.
- Integrate AI into your practice for exploration, prototyping, content development, and maintenance tasks—and help the team refine efficient workflows.
- Participate in user research: help set learning goals, observe sessions, contribute to synthesis, and test your designs directly with users.
- Work collaboratively with product managers and engineers throughout the lifecycle—from shaping requirements to designing within technical parameters.
- Contribute to the design practice’s foundation through feedback, documentation, and establishing processes that support effective design collaboration across the organization.
Who You Are:
- 6+ years designing digital products, preferably complex B2B or enterprise software.
- Bachelor’s degree in Design, HCI, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Focused on designing holistic experiences and workflows—not just individual screens.
- Comfortable tackling problems with complex logic, rich data, and workflows spanning multiple stakeholders.
- Experienced collaborating with researchers and translating user insights into design solutions.
- Self-directed but highly collaborative—drive work end-to-end and actively engage others in the design process.
- Thrive in ambiguity; able to begin iterating before requirements are fully defined, helping shape the problem as you design.
- Hands-on with AI—leveraging it daily and understanding both its strengths and limitations in product design.
- Thinks systemically: connects individual designs to broader component libraries and workflows.
- Proven experience building, documenting, and scaling a design system in production, for both human and AI users.
- Strong command of visual fundamentals: typography, color, hierarchy, and adapting brand assets for dense product interfaces.
- Designs for all scenarios, including empty, loading, error, and success states.
- Understands engineering processes and can navigate technical constraints in design discussions.
- Able to articulate design decisions clearly and champion user-centered practices across the team.
- Portfolio demonstrates the quality, reasoning, and outcomes of your previous work.
Bonus Points:
- Experience designing in healthcare, health plans, payers, PBM, pharmacy, or similarly complex industries.
- Familiarity with healthcare administrative roles (payers, medical directors, economics teams, brokers, employer groups, etc.).
- Working knowledge of HIPAA and healthcare data privacy considerations in product design.
- Track record designing AI-assisted product experiences.
- Experience building a design practice or working as part of a small design team.
- Exposure to startups or early-stage product environments.
Compensation:
- $150,000 - $185,000 annual base salary plus bonus, equity, 401k match, flexible PTO and medical/dental/vision insurance.
