Full description

This is a remote position.

Location: US or Canada (Hybrid/Remote within either country; Canada preferred)

Experience: 6+ years of engineering experience (with 2+ years in a technical leadership/management role)

Company: SuperQ Quantum Computing Inc.

About the Role

SuperQ is seeking a hands-on Engineering Manager to lead, scale, and guide the technical direction of the engineering team building the Super Platform, our AI-driven supercomputing environment integrating GPU, quantum, and parallel computing. In this role, you will sit at the intersection of people leadership and deep technical execution. You are a Systems Engineering expert who loves keeping their hands dirty in code, architecture, and infrastructure. You will directly manage a high-caliber team while driving deep expertise in either Backend Engineering, AI Infrastructure Engineering, or DevOps/Platform Engineering to ensure our hybrid classical-quantum stack is highly scalable, resilient, and performant.

Responsibilities

• Team Leadership & Mentorship: Lead, mentor, and grow a diverse team of systems, backend, and platform engineers; foster a culture of ownership, high performance, and continuous learning.

• Hands-on Architecture & Execution: Remain technically active (approx. 50% management, 50% architecture/coding). Design and build robust, low-latency systems-level software to orchestrate heterogeneous compute resources (GPUs, QPUs, and CPUs).

• Systems Engineering Excellence: Drive the core platform architecture, focusing on distributed systems performance, memory management, high-throughput data streaming, and resource scheduling.

• Cross-Functional Optimization: Oversee and contribute deeply to at least one of our core pillar tracks:

• Backend: Scalable microservices, distributed state coordination, and high-performance APIs.

• AI Engineering: Large-scale GPU cluster orchestration, MLOps pipelines, and low-latency inference infrastructure.

• DevOps: Multi-cloud/hybrid infrastructure as code, automated hardware provisioning, and advanced CI/CD for complex workloads

• Delivery & Integration: Work closely with Quantum Algorithm Engineers and domain leads to translate advanced mathematical prototypes into robust, production-ready enterprise services.

• Agile Operational Ownership: Own the delivery roadmap, sprint planning, engineering metrics, and automated testing frameworks to ensure reliable, continuous deployments.

Requirements

• Experience: 6+ years in a software or systems engineering environment, with at least 2 years of experience formally managing or leading engineering teams in a fast-paced environment.

• Core Proficiency: Strong background in Systems Engineering (e.g., distributed systems, kernel/OS concepts, concurrency, network protocols, or hardware-software co-design).

• Deep Domain Expertise: Proven track record and deep hands-on capability in at least one of the following domains:

• Backend: Mastery of modern languages like Go, Rust, C++, or advanced Python; deep understanding of gRPC, message brokers, and distributed databases.

• AI Engineering: Experience infrastructure-side with PyTorch, Triton Inference Server, CUDA-accelerated workloads, or orchestration of large-scale model training/deployment environments.

• DevOps Engineering: Advanced knowledge of Kubernetes (K8s) internals, Terraform/OpenTofu, service meshes, and bare-metal or hybrid-cloud infrastructure automation.

• Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent practical experience).

• Leadership Style: Strong empathetic leadership, excellent communication skills, and the ability to align technical teams with broader business strategies.

Benefits

Benefits:

• Competitive salary with performance-based bonus structure.

• Stock options / equity participation – be part of the upside of a foundational platform in quantum + classical + AI.

• Flexible work arrangements – choose your Canadian/US location, hybrid office/remote as fits your style.

• Professional development budget: attend conferences (Quantum/AI/HPC), certifications, workshops.

• Access to cutting-edge hardware – quantum access, HPC clusters, GPUs for experimentation and personal innovation time.

Work Culture:

• We foster a collaborative research-meets-engineering environment: you will sit at the intersection of cutting-edge quantum methods and real-world systems.

• Flat organisation, open communication: bring ideas, experiment, iterate.

• Ownership mindset: you will own modules end-to-end, from prototype to production.

• Strong emphasis on learning, curiosity, and innovation – we expect you to push boundaries and help build the future of computing.

• Global & diverse team: though based in Canada, you’ll work across time zones collaborating with UAE, US, Europe.

• Focus on work-life balance: flexible hours, remote-friendly, and inclusive of personal commitments.
