Principal Business Analyst, Cell & Gene Therapy Commercial Technology

Role Summary 

Vertex is seeking a Principal Business Analyst, Cell & Gene Therapy Commercial Technology to join the Data, Technology and Engineering (DTE) team and play a key role in shaping and supporting technology solutions for our Cell & Gene Therapy commercial organization. This individual will partner closely with commercial stakeholders and technology teams to define business needs, improve processes, and enable scalable digital capabilities that support scaling operations, order management, analytics, and end to end patient journey across multiple platforms and technologies.  

The ideal candidate will bring strong business analysis expertise, deep stakeholder management skills, experience delivering AI and automation and supporting commercial functions within biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, or other regulated industries. This role requires a blend of strategic thinking, process optimization, and hands-on delivery support to ensure technology solutions align with business priorities and compliance expectations. 

Work Model: Hybrid or on-site 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Partner with Commercial, Cell & Gene Therapy, and Technology stakeholders to understand business strategies, priorities, and operational challenges 
  • Lead requirements gathering, business process analysis, and solution design for complex commercial technology initiatives 
  • Translate business needs into detailed functional requirements, user stories, process maps, business rules, and solution recommendations 
  • Support technology initiatives across key commercial domains such as patient services, order management, field enablement, commercial analytics, and data integration 

- Partner with business and technical teams to help define and deliver AI and automation use cases aligned to business priorities 

  • Analyze current-state and future-state business processes to identify opportunities for standardization, automation, and optimization 
  • Facilitate cross-functional workshops and working sessions to align stakeholders on priorities, requirements, and solution outcomes 
  • Collaborate with product managers, architects, developers, data teams, and vendors to ensure solutions meet business objectives and enterprise standards 
  • Drive business readiness activities including testing support, user acceptance testing, training coordination, adoption planning, and change management 
  • Ensure solutions align with relevant compliance, privacy, legal, promotional review, and regulated industry requirements 
  • Develop and maintain high-quality documentation including business requirements, process flows, use cases, impact assessments, and traceability artifacts 
  • Use data, metrics, and stakeholder feedback to evaluate solution effectiveness and support continuous improvement 
  • Contribute to business analysis best practices across the commercial technology organization 

Required Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Information Systems, Life Sciences, Engineering, or a related field 
  • Significant experience in business analysis, product delivery, process improvement, or related roles within biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, or another regulated industry 
  • Experience supporting commercial business functions and technology platforms, preferably in life sciences 
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex, cross-functional initiatives involving multiple business and technical stakeholders 
  • Strong experience eliciting, documenting, validating, and managing business and functional requirements 
  • Proven ability to analyze and improve business processes and translate them into technology-enabled solutions 

- Experience supporting or contributing to automation, advanced analytics, AI-enabled, or digital transformation initiatives 

  • Experience working across the system or product delivery lifecycle, including planning, requirements, testing, implementation, and post-go-live support 
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, presentation, and stakeholder management skills 
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational abilities 
  • Understanding of compliance and documentation expectations in regulated business environments 

 

Technical Skills Required 

  • Business and functional requirements documentation 
  • Process mapping and business workflow analysis 
  • User story creation and backlog refinement 
  • Gap analysis and solution assessment 
  • Data analysis, reporting, and dashboard requirements support 
  • Stakeholder workshop facilitation

  • Familiarity with CRM and commercial technology ecosystems 

- Understanding of AI-enabled business solutions, workflow automation, and process digitization concepts 

  • Knowledge of Agile, Waterfall, or hybrid project delivery methodologies 
  • Proficiency with tools such as Jira, Confluence, Visio, Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and other collaboration platforms 
  • Understanding of enterprise data flows, integrations, and commercial reporting environments 

 

Preferred Skills 

  • Experience supporting Cell & Gene Therapy commercial business models and technology capabilities, including Salesforce and AI 
  • Knowledge of pharmaceutical or biotech commercial operations, including field engagement, market access, patient support, and launch planning 
  • Experience with platforms such as CRM systems, data visualization tools, customer engagement platforms, and commercial analytics solutions 

- Experience with AI use case definition, intelligent automation, workflow tools, or emerging digital technologies in support of business operations 

  • Familiarity with patient services, specialty distribution, HUB operations, and reimbursement-related workflows 
  • Experience with digital transformation, automation, and master data or system integration initiatives 
  • Understanding of privacy, promotional, legal, and compliance considerations in commercial technology 
  • Relevant certifications such as CBAP, PMI-PBA, Agile, Scrum, or Lean Six Sigma 
  • Advanced degree in Business, Information Systems, Life Sciences, or a related discipline

Pay Range:

$164,400 - $246,600

Disclosure Statement:

The range provided is based on what we believe is a reasonable estimate for the base salary pay range for this job at the time of posting. This role is eligible for an annual bonus and annual equity awards. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirements. Actual base salary pay will be based on a number of factors, including skills, competencies, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
