We are looking for a motivated Assistant Project Manager to join a commercial construction team and help deliver projects from preconstruction through completion.
This position is ideal for someone with hands-on commercial construction experience who is ready to take the next step in their career. You will work alongside Project Managers and Superintendents while coordinating subcontractors, vendors, design professionals, and clients to keep projects organized, properly documented, and moving on schedule.
The successful candidate will be detail-oriented, proactive, and comfortable working both in the office and on active construction sites.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the day-to-day management of commercial construction, renovation, and tenant improvement projects.
- Support project activities from preconstruction and procurement through construction, turnover, and closeout.
- Coordinate subcontractors, vendors, consultants, architects, engineers, and field teams to keep project requirements on track.
- Prepare, distribute, and track RFIs, submittals, change orders, purchase orders, meeting documentation, and project correspondence.
- Review plans, specifications, and other construction documents to identify discrepancies, coordination issues, and missing information.
- Assist in developing and maintaining project schedules and track progress against critical milestones.
- Help monitor project costs, commitments, invoices, purchase orders, and change-order activity.
- Attend project and coordination meetings, document action items, and follow up with responsible parties.
- Conduct regular jobsite visits to observe progress, document field conditions, and coordinate with the Superintendent and project team.
- Assist with material procurement, deliveries, subcontractor scheduling, and other project logistics.
- Help coordinate inspections, punch-list completion, turnover, warranty items, and final closeout.
- Proactively communicate potential schedule delays, cost concerns, scope issues, and other project risks to the Project Manager.
- Gradually assume greater responsibility for project coordination and management with the goal of progressing into a Project Manager position.
- 2+ years of commercial construction experience in project management, project coordination, project engineering, or a related role.
- Experience working for a general contractor on commercial construction, renovation, tenant improvement, or similar projects.
- Working knowledge of construction documents, including plans, specifications, RFIs, submittals, schedules, and change orders.
- Understanding of commercial construction processes, sequencing, subcontractor coordination, and project documentation.
- Strong ability to communicate and build productive working relationships with subcontractors, vendors, architects, engineers, Superintendents, and clients.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and construction/project management software.
- Strong attention to detail with excellent organization, follow-through, and time-management skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced construction environment.
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred; equivalent hands-on construction experience will be considered.
- Commercial construction experience is required. Candidates with residential-only construction experience will not meet the requirements.
