About the Role
As Senior Project Manager – Grid-Scale Energy Storage Projects, you will play a key role in developing and delivering WLF Energy's growing portfolio of front-of-the-meter battery storage projects.
You will take ownership across the project lifecycle – from identifying and securing suitable sites through grid connection and permitting to construction, commissioning and successful market entry.
Working closely with internal teams and external partners, you will coordinate technical, commercial and regulatory workstreams across complex infrastructure projects. This includes collaboration with landowners, grid operators, authorities, EPC contractors, suppliers, financing partners and energy market participants.
The role combines project development, project delivery and commercial responsibility. You will manage complex interfaces, make projects move forward and help establish the structures and processes needed to scale WLF Energy's grid-scale storage business.
As the business grows, you will also have the opportunity to take on broader leadership responsibility and contribute to building and developing our project organization.
This role is based in Germany and follows a hybrid working model, combining remote work, office presence in Frankfurt and regular travel to project sites. The position does not require you to live in Frankfurt.
What You'll Do
- Drive grid-scale battery storage projects end-to-end – from site identification and early-stage development through construction, commissioning and grid synchronisation
- Identify and assess suitable project sites, considering grid proximity, technical feasibility, construction requirements and other key development factors
- Lead and coordinate grid connection processes, working with distribution and transmission system operators on connection applications, technical requirements and grid studies
- Manage permitting and regulatory workstreams, coordinating with authorities, consultants and other external stakeholders to secure the approvals required for project delivery
- Lead and coordinate key project contracts, including land agreements, grid connection, EPC, O&M and commercial arrangements with market partners
- Manage project delivery across technical, commercial and regulatory workstreams, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule and within budget
- Oversee construction and commissioning, including civil works, battery installation, electrical infrastructure and testing
- Coordinate the transition into market operations, including final grid approvals and interfaces with direct marketing, trading or tolling partners
- Manage key stakeholders, schedules, budgets and risks throughout the project lifecycle and contribute to the continued growth of WLF Energy's grid-scale storage business
What We're Looking For
Experience & Knowledge
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Energy Engineering, Industrial Engineering or a related field – or equivalent practical experience
- 5+ years of professional experience managing and delivering complex energy infrastructure projects
- Proven hands-on background in the development and/or delivery of grid-scale battery storage projects or comparable large-scale energy infrastructure, such as utility-scale solar, wind or substations
- Strong track record of managing projects across multiple phases, from early-stage development through construction and commissioning
- Practical knowledge of grid connection processes at distribution and/or transmission level
- Good understanding of permitting requirements and approval processes for large-scale energy infrastructure projects
- Strong background in managing and negotiating complex contractual structures, including EPC, O&M, grid connection and commercial agreements
- Understanding of the technical fundamentals of battery energy storage systems and relevant grid connection requirements
- Familiarity with electricity market mechanisms, including Day-Ahead, Intraday and ancillary services, and their relevance to project economics
- Knowledge of or exposure to project financing and financial close processes is a plus
- Fluent German and English
Skills & Personal Attributes
- Hands-on and entrepreneurial – you take ownership and are comfortable getting into the details when needed
- Strong project leadership – you can manage complex projects across multiple workstreams, stakeholders and extended timelines
- Commercially minded – you understand the relationship between technical decisions, contractual structures, risks and project economics
- Strong communicator and negotiator – confident working with landowners, authorities, grid operators, contractors and external partners
- Structured and pragmatic – able to manage schedules, budgets and risks while finding practical ways to move projects forward
- Analytical and solution-oriented – able to assess technical, commercial and regulatory risks and make informed decisions
- Comfortable in a fast-moving environment – you enjoy building structures and solving problems rather than waiting for established processes
- Collaborative leader – you work effectively across functions and are interested in taking on broader leadership responsibility as the organization grows
Success in the First 12 Months
- Collaborate with our sales team to build up a portfolio of energy storage projects
- Advance projects through key milestones, from site securing and grid connection to permitting
