How can you make an impact?
As a Senior Data Scientist, you will join a team of data scientists, AI researchers, software developers, and psychometricians who provide technical and scientific leadership for some of our most important strategic efforts companywide. You will be actively and cross-functionally involved in the entire AI/ML model development lifecycle from design to deployment, with a focus on cross-business unit solutions. You will help design, develop, validate, operationalize, evaluate and monitor AI systems and ML models, and you will collaborate closely with colleagues across functions like Product, Engineering, Learning Design, and User Experience to help McGraw Hill create and deliver world-class educational experiences.
This is a remote position open to applicants authorized to work for any employer within the United States.
What You'll Do:
- Plan, execute, and report on projects of diverse scope independently with weekly manager check-ins.
- Support/guide junior colleagues, including acting as team lead on shared projects.
- Propose solutions to business problems based on limited information and precedent.
- Solve problems by adopting, adapting, and/or extending existing DS/AI approaches.
- Collaborate with colleagues in other functions to support the creation of compelling learning experiences.
- Learn how to balance multiple projects and revise project plans as circumstances change.
What You Bring:
- Doctoral degree (or equivalent) in AI, Data Science, Computer Science, or related field
- 1+ years of applicable work experience after doctorate
- Ability to apply DS/AI knowledge to independently define and resolve problems, even with limited information or precedent
- Deep understanding of AI engineering patterns and large language model (LLM) principles, paired with recent orchestrating LLM work using frameworks such as LangGraph
- Proficiency in Python, and SQL (5+ years)
- Creativity in addressing diverse issues aligned with business goals, including suggesting variations in approach
- Ability to adapt communication style to different audiences and advise others on complex matters
- Proven track record of independently planning, executing, and reporting on AI projects to deliver business value

- Passion for technology and commitment to staying current on generative AI advancements
- Affinity for education and knowledge sharing
- Ability to create scalable and efficient production-level code
- Familiarity with Human-Centered AI concepts and practices
- Familiarity with responsible AI principles and AI governance practices

The pay range for this position is between $140,000-$170,000 annually. However, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and location. An annual bonus plan may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical and/or other benefits, depending on the position offered.
