About Roebling

Roebling is building an AI-native engineering solutions company focused on industrial infrastructure. We turn traditional engineering services, from early feasibility studies through FEL-3 project planning, into software-defined solutions, and will progressively increase the capability of our platform and AI agents to support delivery of our solutions.

We envision a future where engineering services are delivered through the guiding of outcomes in a next-generation system, instead of through the current manual management of the design processes. Generative systems will handle the bulk of manual project design tasks, with engineers and designers transitioning away from juggling between spreadsheets, drafting tools, costing engines, and process simulation systems and associated teams to reviewing and selecting generated solutions, tuning input parameters, and optimizing the system level.

Our goal is to enable faster and better decision-making and scope definition at a significantly reduced cost for customers through a 10x time reduction in engineering workflows.

The Role

As our Sales Engineer, you will own the technical win. You are the person in the room who has actually built the estimate, defended the basis of design, and lived through a gate review — and who can now demonstrate, in real time, that Roebling produces numbers that hold.

You'll partner directly with our Enterprise Account Executive across the full sales cycle: running technical discovery, scoping and executing proofs of concept against the customer's own process data, and answering the hard questions from process engineers, cost estimators, and capital project leads who are professionally obligated to be skeptical of AI. Your job is to convert that skepticism into confidence — not by talking around the methodology, but by walking through it.

Most of our buyers come from, or work alongside, EPC firms and owner's engineering teams. The strongest candidate for this role has sat on that side of the table: scoping FEL-1 through FEL-3 work, building Class 5 to Class 3 estimates, and knowing exactly where the hours and the risk actually go. You don't need a software background. You need to be the credible technical peer to the person evaluating us, and comfortable learning a platform deeply enough to make it sing.

Reporting to our Chief Business Officer and working closely with the Enterprise Account Executive and our engineering team, you'll be the first dedicated technical seller at Roebling — which means you'll also be building the demo environment, the POC methodology, and the technical objection-handling playbook that every future Sales Engineer inherits.

What You'll Do

  • Partner with the Enterprise Account Executive as the technical lead on enterprise opportunities across biomanufacturing, chemicals, critical minerals, energy, and adjacent process-heavy industries
  • Run technical discovery with process engineers, cost estimators, and capital project leaders — surfacing the specific workflows, deliverables, and estimating pain that Roebling can displace
  • Design and deliver tailored demonstrations that use the customer's own process, feedstock, and cost assumptions rather than generic sample data
  • Scope, execute, and present proofs of concept — including benchmarking Roebling's output against the customer's existing models, spreadsheets, or prior EPC deliverables
  • Serve as the credible technical authority on how Roebling's deterministic process modeling works, where it is validated, and where its boundaries are — with the judgment to say so plainly
  • Own technical responses to RFPs, RFIs, security and validation questionnaires, and procurement-driven technical due diligence
  • Translate field patterns into structured product input — recurring gaps, competitive comparisons against Aspen, AVEVA, SuperPro, and in-house tools, and the deliverables customers actually need next
  • Build the reusable assets that scale this motion: demo environments, POC templates, technical FAQs, competitive teardowns, and a technical objection-handling playbook
  • Support hand-off to delivery and customer success post-close, ensuring the technical promises made during the sale are the ones that get implemented

Competencies

Must-Have

  • 6+ years in process, capital projects, or techno-economic engineering — with direct, hands-on experience scoping, estimating, or executing industrial capital projects
  • EPC, owner's engineer, or engineering consultancy background strongly preferred — time at a top-tier firm (Fluor, Jacobs, Worley, Bechtel, Wood, Kiewit, Burns & McDonnell, Black & Veatch, Technip Energies, or similar) is the clearest signal we're looking for
  • Fluency with the capital project lifecycle: FEL/stage-gate progression, basis of design, AACE cost estimate classes, contingency and risk methodology, and what gets a project to FID
  • Working knowledge of process simulation and modeling tools (Aspen Plus/HYSYS, SuperPro, AVEVA PRO/II, or equivalent) and the estimating workflows built around them
  • Bachelor's or Master's in Chemical, Mechanical, Process, or a related engineering discipline
  • Demonstrated ability to hold a peer-level technical conversation with senior engineers while also making a clear, non-technical business case to executives in the same meeting
  • Excellent presentation and written communication skills — able to build a demo narrative, write a defensible technical response, and explain a methodology to a skeptical audience without hedging
  • Comfort operating without an established playbook: this is the first role of its kind at Roebling, and you'll be authoring the process as you run it
  • Willingness to travel meaningfully (estimated 25–40%) for customer sessions, site visits, industry events, and in-person collaboration with the Roebling team
  • Authorization to work in the United States

Nice-to-Have

  • Prior experience in a Sales Engineer, Solutions Engineer, Solutions Architect, or technical pre-sales role at a software company
  • Experience selling or implementing industrial software — process simulation, estimating, asset performance management, engineering design tools, or project controls platforms
  • Direct exposure to the AI/LLM tooling landscape, and a considered point of view on where model output can and cannot be trusted in engineering work
  • Vertical depth in one or more of biomanufacturing, critical minerals, specialty chemicals, or energy
  • Experience supporting government-facing work — DOE or DOD programs, grant-funded projects, or public-sector procurement
  • Light scripting or data fluency (Python, SQL) for POC data preparation and analysis
  • Prior startup or high-growth company experience

Compensation

For sales roles, the range provided is the role's On Target Earnings ("OTE") range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role.

Overall salary range: $170–240k.

Benefits Include

  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • Daily lunch allowance
  • Coworking space
  • Competitive compensation packages, including equity
  • Flexible PTO
  • 401(k)
