About the role

The Senior DevOps Developer is responsible for designing, implementing, and improving the tools, processes, automation, and infrastructure that support the development, deployment, and operation of applications. This is a hands-on role requiring strong, in-depth experience across DevOps, cloud infrastructure, automation, and software delivery.

Working closely with development teams and technical stakeholders, the Senior DevOps Developer will take ownership of complex technical challenges, improve CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure, and help ensure application environments are reliable, secure, and efficient.

The successful candidate must be able to work independently, provide technical guidance to other team members, and serve as a key resource for troubleshooting and resolving complex infrastructure, deployment, and production issues.

The majority of work will be performed during normal business hours, although occasional after-hours support may be required for application or infrastructure downtime, deployments, or maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, and ongoing improvement of application infrastructure, cloud environments, deployment processes, and DevOps practices across the software development lifecycle.
  • Design, build, and optimize CI/CD pipelines and developer tooling to improve the speed, reliability, and consistency of software delivery.
  • Design and maintain scalable Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and automation solutions, establishing standards and best practices across environments.
  • Take ownership of AWS cloud infrastructure, including the design, configuration, deployment, optimization, and ongoing support of application environments.
  • Provide technical leadership in the management and integration of application infrastructure across Windows and Mac environments.
  • Work closely with software developers and technical stakeholders to identify infrastructure and deployment needs and translate them into effective technical solutions.
  • Lead the investigation and resolution of complex application, infrastructure, deployment, and production issues, providing guidance to development teams and more junior technical resources.
  • Support and improve database and data store environments, including MySQL 8, PostgreSQL, MS SQL Server, and SQLite, with consideration for performance, reliability, scalability, and availability.
  • Establish and improve reliability, observability, monitoring, and disaster recovery practices, ensuring appropriate visibility into system health, performance, and potential risks.
  • Identify opportunities to improve automation, infrastructure efficiency, system reliability, security, and developer experience.
  • Contribute to application development and code changes where required, with the ability to understand how application architecture impacts infrastructure and deployment.
  • Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and knowledge sharing to intermediate developers and other members of the technical team.
  • Evaluate new tools and technologies and make recommendations that support the organization's technical and operational objectives.
  • Participate in complex deployments, maintenance activities, and occasional after-hours support when required.

Required Experience

  • Significant hands-on experience with AWS and cloud infrastructure, including designing and supporting production environments.
  • Strong experience designing and implementing Infrastructure as Code and automation solutions.
  • Extensive experience with CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, and developer tooling.
  • Strong experience working with databases and data stores, including but not limited to MySQL 8, PostgreSQL, MS SQL Server, and SQLite.
  • Strong experience working across Windows and Mac environments.
  • Strong understanding and practical experience with reliability, observability, monitoring, and disaster recovery.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex issues spanning application, infrastructure, deployment, and production environments.
  • Strong understanding of the software development lifecycle and how development, infrastructure, deployment, and operations work together.
  • Ability to independently assess technical challenges, determine appropriate solutions, and take ownership through implementation and resolution.
  • Experience providing technical guidance and mentorship to other developers or technical team members.

Nice to have

  • Experience with Microsoft Azure and the ability to understand, support, and work across Azure environments.
  • Several years of experience working with the Microsoft Data Platform.
  • Experience with Ruby on Rails or other application development frameworks.
  • Experience contributing to application code and understanding application architecture and its impact on infrastructure and deployment.
  • Experience establishing or improving DevOps standards, practices, and technical processes within an organization.
  • Experience evaluating and introducing new DevOps, cloud, automation, or developer productivity tools.
