Introduction: A Career at HARMAN Automotive

We’re a global, multi-disciplinary team that’s putting the innovative power of technology to work and transforming tomorrow. At HARMAN Automotive, we give you the keys to fast-track your career.

  • Engineer audio systems and integrated technology platforms that augment the driving experience
  • Combine ingenuity, in-depth research, and a spirit of collaboration with design and engineering excellence
  • Advance in-vehicle infotainment, safety, efficiency, and enjoyment

What You’ll Be Part Of

Telematics is the key foundational technology for connected cars and autonomous driving. It includes technology like LTE modems and Network Access Devices (NADs) as well as wireless standards e.g. BT/WiFi, GNSS, NFC etc. and is one of the fastest growing areas. HARMAN works with leading suppliers to design telematics solutions to ensure every in-car experience is entertaining, productive, safe, and secure.

As part of an agile team, you will research and build the Device Drivers / Kernel Code on Linux based Telematics Devices in the areas including, but not limited to communication, networking, and positioning. Also, you will work on the Board Support Packages for the Telematics Device, customizing Device Tree parameters and Build parameters for the Linux Kernel. You will be a part of highly visible demos; and lead effort to bring the product and solutions to market. Your responsibilities include design, development/coding, build, debug, and modify Device Drivers / Kernel Code

How You’ll Make An Impact

     · Design, develop/port Linux device drivers for Harman Hardware Platforms, Create / Adapt Device Tree parameters for the given HW Board by referring Schematics of the board, Datasheet of the SOC, Datasheet of the Peripherals.

       · Debug and troubleshoot system issues on target hardware, not limited to the Linux kernel but including embedded application software.

       · Troubleshoot and debug: o Linux kernel failures – Crashes and Panics o Hardware targets using tools like Digital Oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, Lauterbach TRACE32 debugger and JTAG emulators.

     · Work closely with hardware and BIOS teams for new platform bring up.

     · Understand business requirements, associate them with agile entities (stories/tasks) for planning and execution

    · Design and develop scalable, maintainable, well mannered (CPU, memory, disk, power, network) automotive standard Linux applications

What Makes You A Strong Fit

  • Masters/Bachelors degree in electrical, communications, computer engineering or a similar discipline
  • Should have 4 to 8 years of hands-on experience in research or industry, developing and/or porting device drivers for ARM based SoC platforms
  • A solid foundation in Computer Science with strong competencies in Linux kernel architecture, internals, and device driver concepts
  • Solid understanding of the Linux kernel power management framework
  •  Hands on experience with interfaces like PCIe, SPI, I2C, UART, Ethernet, eMMC/SD
  •  Hands on experience with audio interfaces (I2S, ALSA) and CODECs
  •  Hands on expertise in bring up of new hardware.
  •  Excellent command over reading and understanding Schematics and PCB Assembly files, Datasheets of SOC and Peripheral chips from various HW vendors.
  • Candidates with a strong foundation in Electronics, with hands on experience working on hardware have an edge
  • Excellent troubleshooting and debugging skills with hardware targets using tools like Digital Oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, Lauterbach TRACE32 debugger, etc.

Bonus Points if You Have

      · Hands on experience with troubleshooting and debugging kernel failures - crashes/panics

      · Working experience with industry standard version control systems like git, gerrit.

      · Good written and oral communication skills to collaborate with teams across geographies
