POSITION SUMMARY
The Business Analyst is responsible for drawing conclusions and making recommendations to management on an appropriate course of action by analyzing sales data, census data, competitive information, scan data, pricing figures, industry data and any other applicable sources of information. Analyses may include sales forecasting, opportunity identification and evaluation of program performance. Role also entails the development of sales templates, results tracking, extracting and manipulating data, and formatting of reports as requested by management as needed.
ESSENTIAL POSITION RESULTS
- Helps coordinate all the necessary steps in setting up new Brands/SKUs including gathering & disseminating new item, pricing & profitability information.
- Work with Statewide Business Director on building the annual plan/calendar, determining the pricing plan and promotional calendar, designing sales incentives, and communicating to both management and the sales force. Maintain Better Buy/Notable and MPP files to communicate pricing to sales.
- Forecasts adequate supply for all sales programs and ensures that appropriate inventory levels are maintained by closely collaborating with internal purchasing contact. Communicate with Supplier to get ETAs of OOS items. Attends monthly Sales & Operations Calls to communicate across departments monthly inventory needs and review unsaleable inventory.
- Administers the pricing plan by filing with state and validating pricing for publication and communicates current and available pricing to sales force. Administers Military Submit monthly DA support documentation. Submits requests to supplier monthly for Missing Reimbursement support.
- Evaluates the potential impact of pricing modifications or prospective programming elements by reviewing pertinent sales data, research, and comparable examples to forecast sales.
- Learn the various BOH roles of the business manager including maintaining and growing gross profit for the company, aligning with purchasing to provide an adequate supply of sales for all programs, managing supplier budgets, allocations, banks, spends and bill backs.
- Learn the various Marketing roles of the business manager including preparing for General Sales Meetings by creating & communicating the features & benefits of sell sheets, concept sells, brand initiatives & marketing strategies.
- Ensures plan for allocations is in place for limited availability items/ reviews monthly spreadsheet. Works with Statewide Business Director on strategy for allocated items.
- Working with Statewide Business Management Director on Key Supplier Analytics
- Preparing materials for supplier planning meetings by aggregating and reviewing Focus Marketing data, internal sales data, spend data, important demographic and socioeconomic developments and pricing and category trends.
- Create and run reporting for sales initiatives, incentives, opportunities in market.
- Uncovers market and brand opportunities by developing an understanding of category, customer and market dynamics and using this knowledge to assess brand performance.
- Develops business review content by working with the Supplier & Business Management Directors to analyze sales performance, develop business case and incorporate data into templates, as well as measuring gap analysis based on historical data.
- Work with Statewide Bus Director and Sales Directors to build out monthly Goal Model goals and work with additional analyst support to implement into GreatVines System.
- Measure ROI on selected programming and pricing by working with Business Management Directors on Key Supplier performance.
- Manage approvals for samples and brand muscle requests while staying within budget.
- Works with Statewide Business Director & finance manager to oversees and approve supplier bill-backs, and manages supplier accounts receivable by ensuring account information is coordinated with accounting team.
- Completes all necessary training programs by attending, participating, and passing all required tests as defined by management (e.g., SALES SKILLS, ANALYTICAL TRAINING, DIVER TRAINING, etc.).
- Maintains market and sales understanding by conducting sales work-withs on a quarterly basis as prescribed by management.
- Maintains professional and industry knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
- Maintains customer confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential.
- Maintains a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Contributes to statewide initiatives by accomplishing related duties as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Certifications and/or licenses:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred in related field and/or equivalent training and work experience required.
- Ability to hold a Solicitor’s Permit required (where applicable).
- Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to operate a motor vehicle (where applicable).
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of 3 years in financial, business analysis or sales/marketing industry experience preferred.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
Highly fluent in Excel and relational database programs. Strong knowledge of Power Point.
Sound understanding of wine and spirits is preferred.
Must be a results oriented professional with excellent verbal/written communication skills using diplomacy and discretion as well as customer service skills.
Ability to multi-task, work independently and/or within a team, pays attention to detail and meet deadlines.
Proficient PC skills using MS Office and other various programs including presentation software. Advanced Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint capabilities required.
Budgeting, forecasting, and accounting skills required.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to periodically travel across NY State for supplier and internal meetings as needed
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Empire Merchants offers a competitive compensation package including:
- Salary Range: $65,0000-$75,000 plus annual bonus potential
