About the Role
Reporting to the VP of Engineering, you will lead multiple product development teams and deliver assigned projects on schedule, within budget, and to our quality standards across the full product lifecycle, from ideation through production release.
Kägwerks develops complex hardware and software products that involve printed circuit boards, custom mechanical components made from a variety of materials, integration with third-party products, and compliance testing to multiple military standards. You will need enough technical understanding of these elements to work with the team to build detailed work plans, track progress, and remove obstacles to delivering our product roadmap.
This role is ideal for someone who is organized and hands-on and who thrives in a fast-paced environment. You should be a strong communicator who can work closely with the technical team and with stakeholders both inside and outside the company.
This is a great opportunity to work with a passionate and highly skilled engineering group, where innovation and collaboration are key to success.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop detailed project plans that include technical scope, execution schedules, project budgets, and resource loading
- Manage the project team’s work assignments to meet committed milestones and deadlines
- Monitor project expenditures (labor, expense, and capital) throughout the project
- Provide concise project reports to key internal stakeholders on a monthly basis
- Identify technical, schedule, and cost risks to project deliverables and develop plans to mitigate them
- Ensure adherence to the product development stage-gate process
- Schedule and lead weekly project meetings, monthly project reviews, and all design and gate reviews for the project
- Coordinate qualification and compliance testing to applicable military standards and customer specifications
- Provide minutes and action items for all project meetings and maintain an action register for the project to ensure all items are closed out at the appropriate time
- Review project material purchases to ensure adherence to the project budget
- Track and report on KPIs related to project execution and provide suggestions for improving team efficiency and execution consistency
- Oversee subcontractors and suppliers to ensure deliveries are consistent with project requirements
- Manage the transition of designs into production, working with contract manufacturers and component suppliers
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or another technical field
- Excellent communication, leadership, and cross-functional collaboration skills
Preferred Experience
- Background in secure communications, sensor systems, or ground vehicle electronics
- A history of managing physical products through the full product development lifecycle, including production and customer delivery
- Experience working with government customers, defense primes, or classified development programs
- Expertise in working with external contract manufacturers and component manufacturers
- Experience working in a small to medium-sized company where individuals are expected to be able to support the organization outside their core competencies
- Experience using project scheduling and tracking tools (such as Microsoft Project, Smartsheet, or Jira)
