Role Overview
As a Business Systems Analyst, you will work closely with Product Owners (PO), Agile Delivery Managers (ADM), business stakeholders and technical teams to capture, analyse and document business requirements. You will translate business needs into clear functional specifications that support the design, development, testing and implementation of business applications and technology solutions.
The role requires strong analytical skills, stakeholder engagement and the ability to bridge the gap between business requirements and technical delivery within an Agile software development environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Product Owners, business stakeholders and end users to elicit, analyse and document business requirements.
- Translate business requirements into clear functional and non-functional specifications, including user interface, reporting, integration and data requirements.
- Produce user stories, process flows, acceptance criteria and other business analysis artefacts to support software delivery.
- Work closely with software engineers to ensure delivered solutions align with agreed business requirements and business outcomes.
- Support testing activities by ensuring requirements are fully validated through test scenarios, test cases and quality assurance activities.
- Identify and manage requirements-related risks, issues and dependencies throughout the delivery lifecycle.
- Facilitate communication between business and technical teams to ensure a shared understanding of requirements and solution objectives.
- Document, analyse and communicate current-state and future-state business processes.
- Support business users with the investigation and resolution of complex application and system issues.
- Collaborate effectively with third-party vendors and software suppliers where required.
- Maintain knowledge of business analysis best practices, industry standards and emerging technologies.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of business analysis processes, templates and documentation standards.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Essential
- Experience within the General Insurance or Regional Insurance sector.
- Knowledge of SSP Pure.
- Strong understanding of business analysis methodologies, techniques and best practices.
- Experience gathering, analysing and documenting business and system requirements.
- Good understanding of Agile delivery methodologies and the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC).
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and organisational skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to engage technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong stakeholder management and relationship-building skills.
- Experience producing user stories, process maps, workflow diagrams, functional specifications and acceptance criteria.
- Strong customer focus with experience supporting business users and operational teams.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced and changing environment.
Desirable
- Experience working with data-driven applications, reporting solutions and system integrations.
- Working knowledge and capabilities in SQL Server, data analysis and database concepts.
- Understanding of usability, accessibility and user experience best practices.
- Experience working with third-party software providers and external suppliers.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Information Technology, Computer Science or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- Typically 3-5 years' experience in Business Analysis, Systems Analysis or a similar role within an application development environment.
- Experience working within Agile delivery teams and software development projects.
- Professional Business Analysis certifications (IIBA, BCS or Agile-related qualifications) are advantageous but not essential.
