Project Manager (MEP)

PACT (Pearson Accelerator Construction Team) is a General Partnership of Alberici, Amico, Kenaidan, and Obayashi, supported by design partners Egis, Mott MacDonald, and Weston Williamson + Partners. Together, we are delivering Accelerator, a major program of Pearson LIFT (Long-term Investment in Facilities and Terminals), Toronto Pearson's infrastructure development plan. This multi-year program is designed to address immediate passenger growth demands while preparing Canada’s largest airport for the future of air travel—including critical upgrades to airfield and infrastructure, greenhouse gas reduction initiatives, modernization of Terminals 1 and 3, and the creation of a world-class passenger experience.

JOB SUMMARY

The Project Manager – Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) for our Interim Infrastructure Sub-Program will support the planning, coordination, and execution of complex MEP scopes across a portfolio of projects valued between $400M and $600M+ while ensuring safety, quality, schedule, and budget objectives are achieved.

The successful candidate will provide leadership across planning, design management, procurement, commercial management, stakeholder engagement, construction delivery, risk management, and program controls.

The position requires a proven infrastructure leader with experience delivering large-scale capital programs in complex operational environments and a demonstrated ability to manage multiple concurrent projects while maintaining safety, schedule, cost, quality, and stakeholder objectives.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Manage the integration and coordination of all building systems including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, controls, communications, security, and other specialty systems throughout design, construction, commissioning, and operational readiness.

• Manage commissioning planning, turnover strategy, integrated systems testing, operational readiness activities, and handover to operations.

• Serve as a technical authority for building systems, providing guidance on system selection, constructability, operational impacts, maintainability, and lifecycle performance.

• Facilitate trade partner coordination and performance management across all MEP and specialty systems contractors.

• Manage system outages, tie-ins, commissioning windows, and shutdowns.

• Monitors progress of the design, including compliance issues, quality, general coordination, constructability, and timing of deliverables.

• Assists the project team lead obtain a comprehensive design-management and design-quality plan and conduct periodic quality audits to ensure compliance.

• Keeps all parties informed of potential opportunities and challenges and manages stakeholders’ expectations through appropriate forms of communication.

• Manage and mentor Project Coordinators and other technical specialists.

• Establish program governance, reporting, and escalation processes.

• Drive constructability reviews, value engineering, and scope optimization.

• Manage consultant performance and ensure alignment with schedule, budget, and technical requirements.

• Develop procurement and contract packaging strategies.

• Provides overall contract administration, technical expertise, and support to a large infrastructure construction project.

• Develops and implements the project safety plan and leads by example for health and safety practices and procedures.

• Ensures the project is constructed as per design, budget, resources, quality, and schedule.

• Understands client drivers and offers value engineering proposals for functionality, cost, and schedule benefit.

• Manages project performance and providing performance status reports for safety, cost forecast, and schedule.

• Negotiates and issues subcontracts, major purchase orders and progress payments and monitors their progress and schedule.

• Understands, communicates, and enforces the contract and contract documents.

• Lead contractor engagement, bid evaluations, and award recommendations.

• Manage budgets, forecasting, change management, risk, and commercial performance.

• Manage logistics and operational interfaces.

• Monitor performance and implement corrective actions where required.

• Act as a point of contact for key stakeholders.

• Conduct presentations and reporting to executive leadership, steering committees, owners, and regulators.

• Manage relationships across airport operations, consultants, authorities, and delivery partners.

• Support with other duties as needed.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS  

The position will be based at our office or site office in Mississauga, Ontario, with frequent visits to the Airport site as required. Your work schedule will be Monday to Friday during regular office or site hours. At times, operational needs may require work outside these hours, with reasonable notice provided. All schedule or on‑call adjustments will comply with applicable employment standards legislation. It is mandatory for all employees to complete a Criminal Background check and successfully attain a Restricted Access Identity Card (RAIC) and an Airside Vehicle Operator’s Permit (AVOP) upon joining the company.

DESIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, COMPETENCIES 

• Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Construction Management, Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical), or a related technical discipline—or equivalent extensive field leadership experience.

• Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation is considered an asset.

• PMP certification is preferred.

• 8+ years of progressive experience leading MEP and building systems delivery on large-scale commercial, transportation, healthcare, aviation, industrial, or mission-critical facilities projects.

• Experience with design and construction management of major airfield or transportation infrastructure projects. 

• Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems.

• Experience with Progressive Design-Build, Design-Build, Alliance, CM, EPC, or P3 delivery models.

• Strong commercial acumen including procurement, budgeting, forecasting, change management, and risk management.

• Experience managing Project Coordinators and multidisciplinary delivery teams.

• Excellent coordination and communication skills across technical and field teams. 

• Proficiency with project management tools, digital collaboration platforms, and document control systems. 

• Commitment to safety, innovation, and continuous improvement within a multidisciplinary program environment. 

• Valid driver’s license and eligibility for RAIC clearance and AVOP required.
