The Role

As the DevOps Manager for the Edge team, you will lead and manage the team responsible for the DevOps owned components from our edge solution as well as packaging, maintaining, and securing our main product on the edge.

Your primary responsibility is to oversee the creation of robust, scalable edge deployments (utilizing OpenShift, k0s, Docker, and Podman) that will be handed over to our Operations team for deployment at scale.

In this role, you will own the CI/CD pipelines for building and delivering our product, manage vulnerability scanning and CVE remediations across the entire SSDLC pipeline, and oversee monitoring infrastructure, system setups, and automations for our Hardware as a Service (HaaS) initiative.

To deliver a highly secure and functional solution, you will foster tight, day-to-day collaboration with key partners, including the Development teams, Operations to ensure seamless handoffs, Validation/QA to guarantee platform stability, and Security to ensure compliance and threat mitigation across all edge environments.

Having a good understanding of our product, its components and their interactions is essential.

Ensuring timely, high-quality handling of requests and product delivery will directly impact customer satisfaction.

What You'll Do

• Develop and improve team capabilities in automation, edge deployment, monitoring, troubleshooting and DevOps CI/CD pipelines.

• Drive continuous improvement initiatives and ensure alignment with business goals.

• Ensure the team delivers high quality and on time edge product releases and critical vulnerability patches.

• Drive the solution to configure and setup the systems for our HaaS initiative.

• Drive the team to research new automations and technologies to further polish and improve our products.  

Leadership

• Leads the DevOps Edge team. Manages the day-to-day running of the team and the projects.

• Overall responsibility for the projects that the team is working on. Acts as a point of escalation for the team.

• Works with senior leadership to create strategic goals for their team. Measures the performance of those goals.  

Teaching and Sharing Culture

• Shares skills, knowledge, and expertise with the team.

• Fosters a culture of collaboration and continuous learning by organizing training sessions, workshops, and knowledge-sharing sessions.

• Develop, extend and maintain Gitlab CI/CD pipelines for building DevOps owned components, packaging and delivering our edge solution and creating CI/CD templates and guidelines to be used by the wider engineering teams.

• Keeps up-to-date on best practices and new technologies. 

• Collaborates on technical architecture and system design.

• Evaluates existing components or systems to determine integration requirements and to ensure the final solutions meet organizational needs.

• Interacts with cross-functional management on high-profile technical operations while providing clear feedback and leadership to support teams. 

• Authoring knowledgebase articles and driving internal knowledge sharing.

• Works in off-routine hours occasionally. Works with customers and travel to international customer or partner locations.

Collaborating With

• Product and PM teams: Collaborate with Product, PM and PMO teams during the development lifecycle to create estimations, specifications and plan work for the Edge team.

• Engineering teams: Work closely with the wider DevOps engineering teams, your manager, software developers and QA engineers to understand requirements, provide technical guidance, develop edge solutions, tools and automations and ensure smooth functioning and deployment of our product.

• Security Team: Collaborate with the team to ensure the security of our edge solutions.

Profile and Skills

• Experience: Proven 3+ years experience as a DevOps Manager and previous experience as a DevOps/Automation Engineer, Linux Administrator or a combination of these roles.

• Linux & System Services: Basic understanding of local and distributed filesystems (ext4, xfs, NFS), storage migration, SSH tunneling, web servers (Nginx, Apache), reverse proxying, and troubleshooting (logs, performance, connectivity).

• Containerization & Orchestration: Basic knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes/OpenShift, and virtualization solutions.

• Configuration Management & CI/CD:  Experience with Ansible/Ansible Tower (or similar tools like Salt, Puppet, Chef), Jenkins/GitLab CI/CD (or equivalents like CircleCI, TeamCity), and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform (or alternatives like Azure Automation, CloudFormation).

• Cloud & Version Control: Familiarity with Azure Cloud (or AWS, GCP), GIT for system versioning, and basic understanding of backup solutions.

• Scripting & Programming: Experience in Bash scripting and Python for automation and development tasks.

• Monitoring & Logging: Experience with monitoring tools like Node exporter, Prometheus, Grafana, and log collection solutions (e.g Promtail, Grafana alloy).

• Databases: Basic understanding of relational (MySQL, MariaDB) and NoSQL (Elasticsearch, MongoDB) databases, with hands-on experience writing queries.

• API & Data Formats: Hands-on experience with JSON and making Restful API calls.

• Software Engineering & Architecture: Broad understanding of software engineering principles, architecture, programming languages, frameworks, and industry trends, particularly in the AI space.

  • Possesses strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, leveraging data to inform product decisions. This skill is essential for identifying market opportunities, optimizing product features, and addressing challenges effectively.
