Job Location: Chennai, India

Join Us!

We combine AtkinsRéalis project management expertise and Hitachi Energy’s deep technological knowledge to create a company dedicated to substations – we are Linxon!

The Engineering Manager leads the multidisciplinary engineering team assigned to one major project, or to several projects in parallel, within the High Voltage (HV) substation EPC business. The role owns technical delivery end-to-end — from design coordination through to as-built handover — while acting as the primary technical interface toward vendors, subcontractors, and internal/external stakeholders. This is a senior, hands-on leadership position requiring both deep electrical engineering credibility and strong people-management skills.

What will you do?

Team Leadership:

  • Manage, coordinate, and develop the project engineering team, covering primary (substation layout, electrical calculations, studies), secondary (protection, control, automation, SCADA), BIM/3D modelling, and civil/structural engineering disciplines.
  • Allocate   engineering resources and Distribute workload across the allocated resources of the project team based on project phase, milestones, and priorities; scale the team up or down as projects move through ECI, detailed engineering, and site support phases.
  • Set individual and team objectives, mentor engineers, and support technical skill development within the discipline groups.
  • When responsible for multiple projects simultaneously, arbitrate priorities and resource allocation across projects in line with overall business objectives.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for Principal Design Engineer in UK and guarantee the delivery of the design by GETS as per project plan.
  • Attend weekly internal design review and monthly project plan review meetings.

Engineering Delivery & Technical Ownership:

  • Own the overall technical quality, consistency, and interdisciplinary coordination of the engineering deliverables (single line diagrams, layouts, protection & control schemes, civil/structural drawings, 3D BIM models, technical specifications).
  • Ensure engineering outputs comply with applicable codes, standards, client technical specifications, and internal engineering standards.
  • Resolve interdisciplinary technical conflicts (e.g., primary/civil layout clashes, secondary/primary interface issues) and ensure design freeze milestones are met.
  • Review and approve Guarantee the review and the approval of the key technical documents and design packages before issue to client or procurement according to project delivery plan.

Vendor & Supplier Interface:

  • Act as the senior technical point of contact toward equipment vendors and subcontractors.
  • Support technical clarification meetings, technical bid evaluations, factory acceptance tests (FAT), and design review meetings with suppliers.
  • Ensure vendor technical documentation (drawings, datasheets, calculations) is reviewed, commented, and approved in line with project schedule.

Internal Coordination & Stakeholder Management:

  • Interface with the wider project engineering organization (project management, procurement, construction, commissioning, QA/QC) to align engineering priorities with overall project schedule and deliverables.
  • Represent the engineering function in internal project review meetings, steering committees, and client-facing technical discussions.
  • Communicate risks, technical constraints, and schedule impacts clearly and proactively to project leadership and internal stakeholders.
  • Act as a credible, senior technical voice able to defend engineering positions and priorities in front of internal stakeholders and management.

Experience, Education and other Required:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering (Bachelor's or Master's level).
  • Minimum 18+ years of experience required, with a solid background in the HV EPC substation business (design, engineering, and/or execution of AIS/GIS substations, HV equipment, protection & control systems).
  • Proven experience managing or leading a multidisciplinary engineering team (primary, secondary, civil, and/or BIM disciplines).
  • Track record of managing engineering scope on EPC substation projects, ideally with exposure to both single-project and multi-project engineering management.
  • Direct experience interfacing with equipment vendors and subcontractors on technical matters (technical clarifications, bid evaluation, design reviews, FAT).
  • Experience working within a structured project engineering environment, coordinating with project management, procurement, and construction functions.
  • Strong technical grounding across HV substation engineering disciplines, sufficient to arbitrate between primary, secondary, civil, and BIM inputs.
  • Solid understanding of project engineering processes: design freeze, document control, interdisciplinary coordination, schedule-driven deliverables.
  • Strong leadership and people-management skills, with the ability to organize, motivate, and hold a technical team accountable.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, comfortable presenting and defending positions to senior internal and client stakeholders.
  • Strong personality and presence, with the seniority and confidence to front demanding internal stakeholders and represent engineering interests at project level.
  • Fluent in English (additional languages an advantage depending on project geography).

What we offer:

In return, we offer a wide range of rewards and benefits,

  • 20 days Privilege Leave, 13 days Emergency leave and 14 Public holidays per year
  • Medical Insurance, Life Insurance and Career Progression
