Are you passionate about embedded systems, FPGA technology, and developing high-performing technical teams? Do you enjoy helping engineers grow while driving technical excellence across product enablement and customer success? Altera is seeking an Engineering Manager, FPGA Applications Engineering to lead a team of applications engineers responsible for the Hard Processor System (HPS), configuration, and security features of Altera FPGA products. This team plays a critical role in ensuring customers can successfully design, deploy, and secure systems based on Altera devices. In addition, this role is critical in influencing future product development.

As a manager, you will lead a team of highly skilled engineers who develop technical collateral, create design examples, validate product releases, resolve complex customer issues, and drive technology adoption across Altera's embedded portfolio. You will report into and work in close partnership with an Applications Engineering team in North America, operating as a single global organization with shared goals, technical ownership, and customer support responsibilities.

Responsibilities

People Leadership

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of applications engineers located in Penang, Malaysia.
  • Foster a culture of technical excellence, innovation, accountability, and customer focus.
  • Establish team objectives, priorities, and execution plans aligned with organizational goals.
  • Recruit, develop, and retain top engineering talent.
  • Provide career development, performance feedback, mentoring, and technical guidance.
  • Create an inclusive environment that encourages world-wide collaboration, knowledge sharing, and continuous learning.

Technical Leadership

  • Guide the development of application notes, user guides, tutorials, design examples, demonstrations, and training materials that enable successful customer adoption.
  • Drive product readiness activities, ensuring software and hardware releases meet customer requirements and quality expectations.
  • Partner closely with architecture and development engineering teams to influence product requirements, improve usability, and enhance the customer experience.

Customer and Product Enablement

  • Serve as an escalation point for complex customer issues involving embedded processors, device configuration, boot flows, and system security.
  • Drive root cause analysis and corrective actions for customer-reported issues while partnering with engineering development teams to improve product quality.
  • Champion customer requirements and advocate for improvements that simplify adoption of Altera technologies.
  • Oversee development and validation of reference designs, software examples, and demonstrations for customer enablement.
  • Ensure the team delivers high-quality technical training, documentation, and support materials.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline.
  • 8+ years of experience in applications engineering, embedded systems, FPGA development, software engineering, system architecture, or related technical fields.
  • 3+ years of experience leading global teams, projects, or technical organizations.

Preferred:

  • Experience with ARM-based embedded systems and Linux operating systems.
  • Experience with FPGA technologies, design flows, and development tools.
  • Knowledge of FPGA configuration architectures and programming methods.
  • Experience with boot software such as U-Boot, ATF, or related technologies
  • Experience with device security technologies including authentication, encryption, key management, secure boot, or secure manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC) concepts and implementation.
  • Experience with board bring-up, hardware debug, and system validation.
  • Experience developing customer-facing technical collateral, design examples, and training content.
