We are seeking a skilled and analytical Data Scientist to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will analyze and interpret complex data sets gathered from our software interfacing with mining equipment, machine guidance systems, and fleet management software. Your insights will play a crucial role in optimizing mining operations, improving equipment performance, and enhancing fleet management strategies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategy: Develop and execute the data science strategy aligned with the company's goals and objectives in the mining technology sector. Collaborate with senior leadership to identify business needs and translate them into data-driven solutions.
  • Project Management: Oversee multiple data science projects from conception to deployment, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to quality standards.
  • Data Analysis & Interpretation: Analyze large and complex datasets from various sources, including sensors, equipment logs, and operational data, to extract meaningful insights and trends. Apply signal processing techniques such as filtering, sensor fusion, Fourier transforms, and wavelet analysis to extract meaningful insights and patterns from time series and sensor signals, optimize real-time system performance.
  • Model Design & Development:
  • Design and deploy scalable models for predictive maintenance, focusing on anomaly detection and remaining useful life (RUL) estimation.
  • Develop predictive and prescriptive models to forecast equipment maintenance needs, optimize fleet operations, and improve machine guidance accuracy.
  • Lead the development and implementation of advanced time series models for high-dimensional sensor data.
  • Enable model transparency for users interpretation, decision making and story telling.
  • Data Visualization: Create intuitive and impactful data visualizations and dashboards to communicate findings to stakeholders and support data-driven decision-making.
  • Collaboration & Communication:
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including machine learning engineers, software developers, and mining operations experts, to understand data requirements and deliver actionable solutions.
  • Develop, maintain, and coordinate research plans that enable development teams to schedule the commercial implementation of data models developed through your research.
  • Communicate complex technical concepts and insights to non-technical stakeholders through clear and compelling data visualizations and presentations.
  • Data Management, Strategy & Governance:
  • Ensure data quality, integrity, and security by implementing best practices in data collection, cleaning, and storage.
  • Implement data governance policies and procedures to maintain compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Research & Innovation: Stay updated with the latest data science techniques and mining industry trends to incorporate innovative approaches into our solutions.
  • Performance Monitoring: Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of implemented models and analyses, making necessary adjustments to improve accuracy and relevance.
  • Documentation & Sharing: Maintain thorough documentation of data processes, models, and analyses to ensure transparency and reproducibility. Promote “data science” to the rest of the organization through knowledge sharing.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field. A Ph.D. is a plus.
  • Experience:
  • Proven experience as a Data Scientist or similar role, preferably within the mining or heavy industries sector.
  • Experience with data science frameworks and libraries (e.g., pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch).
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or R.
  • Technical Skills:
  • Strong understanding of statistical analysis, machine learning algorithms (including supervised and unsupervised techniques), and data preprocessing techniques.
  • Experience with tools / techniques for enable users by making machine learning outputs to be user understandable and transparent through techniques such as SHAP values.
  • Experience with big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark, Snowflake) and databases (SQL, NoSQL).
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, D3.js).
  • Knowledge of data warehousing, ETL processes, and data integration from IoT devices and sensors.
  • Proficiency in using version control systems (e.g., Git) and collaborative development tools.
  • Eligibility:
  • Must be eligible to work in Australia or Canada.
  • Travel:
  • Availability for up to 10% travel.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with mining equipment data and understanding of mining operations.
  • Knowledge of machine guidance systems and fleet management software.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and deploying data science solutions in cloud environments.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Base salary of $144,000 - $165,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
