In this role, you will support a national account program with a strong focus on project delivery, client communication, and coordinated execution across internal teams and field resources.

Working under the direction of the Program Manager, the Project Manager provides oversight for a portfolio of assigned projects, acts as a key point of contact for project and operational issues, and helps ensure work is delivered on time, within budget, and in alignment with client objectives.

Role Overview

This role is responsible for managing and coordinating project activity across a national account portfolio, with an emphasis on physical security delivery, stakeholder communication, schedule control, and issue resolution. You will partner closely with program leadership, field teams, internal stakeholders, and the client to support consistent execution, customer satisfaction, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee a portfolio of projects managed by Johnson Controls for the assigned national account.
  • Provide regular project communication to internal stakeholders and external client contacts.
  • Serve as a single point of contact for project and operational issues as assigned by the Program Manager.
  • Monitor critical activities, resources, milestones, and timelines to support on-time delivery.
  • Sequence projects, adjust timelines, and update scope documents when priorities change.
  • Align operational support activities, standards, policies, and processes to client objectives.
  • Facilitate communication between the client and Johnson Controls teams, including field project managers, installation managers, and technicians.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of client needs, challenges, and opportunities for service improvement.
  • Prepare and maintain project documentation, including playbooks, standards, and installation guides for assigned projects.
  • Perform periodic project and program reviews and recommend actions for improvement.
  • Support QBR efforts and contribute to consistent reporting on project status and performance.
  • Help ensure proper resource alignment across individual projects and support escalations when needed.

How You Will Do It

  • Own project plans from initiation through execution, with clear accountability for results, safety, and integrity.
  • Stay close to the work by understanding field conditions, removing obstacles, and helping the client move work forward.
  • Track progress against plan, identify risks early, and act quickly to protect schedule, scope, and budget.
  • Use candor and structured problem-solving to drive continuous improvement across project execution and service delivery.
  • Work as one team with program leadership, operations, sales, and field teams to align decisions and share information openly.
  • Implement and operate within a project-controlled environment aligned to JCI playbook requirements.
  • Develop and maintain a project scoreboard that provides clear visibility into status, risks, and key deliverables.
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and practical support to field project managers, installation managers, and technicians.
  • Lead or participate in meetings with confidence, representing Johnson Controls professionally with clients and internal partners.
  • Use project reviews to identify benefits, track progress, and support meaningful corrective actions.

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of physical security experience, including regular interface with general contractors, property managers, and client stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of both installation and service elements of operational performance.
  • Experience managing professionals, with at least 3 years of leadership responsibility.
  • Working knowledge of permitting and union complexities.
  • Experience using MS Project or Smartsheet to maintain accurate and current project timelines for client publication.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including presentation skills.
  • Ability to lead and participate in meetings while representing Johnson Controls effectively.
  • Technical familiarity with enterprise-wide access control and video systems, or the ability to learn these systems quickly.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to adjust labor efforts to fluctuating demands.
  • Ability to work closely with sales and program management leadership to bring thought leadership to the client.

Nice to Have

  • Experience in the IT industry and/or engineering.
  • Project management certification.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent industry experience performing functional project management in a complex physical security environment.
  • Experience servicing clients in the power utility or regulated public sector.

HIRING SALARY RANGE: $99,000 to $159,000 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience,  knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market  data.)
