🏠 Where you'll fit in:
Kraken Distribution is building a native analytics capability to support our products, customer migrations and growing customer base. As our first Senior Analytics Engineer in Distribution, you will establish the data models, datasets and working practices that allow our teams and customers to generate trusted insights from Kraken data.
You will be embedded within the Distribution team and work closely with Product, Engineering and Client Delivery Leads to understand customer needs and translate them into scalable analytics capabilities. You will report through the Distribution organisation, with a dotted-line relationship into Kraken’s central Analytics and Data Platform teams. This structure ensures that Distribution priorities drive your work while keeping you connected to Kraken’s wider data community, standards and technical direction.
🚀 What you’ll own:
This is a senior, hands-on role with significant scope to shape how analytics is delivered across Kraken Distribution. You will develop a deep understanding of the global Kraken application data model and the Distribution domain, build curated data models and lightweight ingestion pipelines, and create the documentation and foundations required to support future reporting, analytics and advanced insights.
Kraken Analytics will provide alignment on modelling standards and analytics architecture, while Data Platform will continue to own the foundational platform and shared data infrastructure. You will own Distribution-specific analytics models, datasets, ingestion workflows and data products, working closely with both teams to reuse and extend Kraken’s shared capabilities.
- Establish and shape the analytics engineering capability within Kraken Distribution to accelerate customer onboarding and support a growing customer base.
- Become a subject-matter expert in the global Kraken application data model and the Distribution domain, enabling teams and customers to interpret and use Kraken data confidently.
- Define, build and document reusable data models that make complex Distribution data easier to understand, govern and apply across customer use cases.
- Partner with Client Delivery Leads, Product, Engineering and customers to identify high-value opportunities and translate them into scalable data products and analytics capabilities.
- Support customer migrations through data discovery, mapping, transformation and reconciliation, reducing delivery risk and helping customers realise value sooner.
- Build and maintain reliable dbt models, shared metrics and core datasets that support consistent operational, product and customer decision-making.
- Develop lightweight Python-based ingestion pipelines for Distribution-specific market and non-application data, expanding the information available for reporting and advanced insights.
- Establish automated testing, monitoring, documentation and data-quality controls so that internal teams and customers can use Distribution data with confidence.
- Select and build effective ways to deliver insights (including trusted datasets, reports, dashboards and data applications) so stakeholders can turn data into action.
- Collaborate with Kraken Analytics, Data Platform and the wider data community to reuse shared capabilities, avoid duplication and ensure Distribution’s needs contribute to Kraken’s broader data roadmap.
🧠 What you'll bring to the party:
We are looking for a senior analytics engineer who combines strong technical judgement with the ability to operate autonomously in a complex, customer-facing environment.
You will be comfortable turning ambiguous business and domain problems into well-designed, reliable data products. You can move between detailed, hands-on engineering work and higher-level conversations about customer needs, architecture and priorities. You are also able to influence stakeholders and establish effective ways of working without relying on formal authority.
As the first person in this role, you will be motivated by the opportunity to create something new, while recognising when to reuse and build upon the standards, tools and expertise that already exist across Kraken.
Essential Experience
- Demonstrated analytics engineering or related data experience, including ownership of complex work from discovery through to production.
- Advanced SQL and dbt skills, supported by strong data-modelling principles and experience building maintainable, well-tested and reusable models.
- Experience building production-quality data pipelines using Python and modern cloud data warehouse or lakehouse technologies.
- Strong engineering practices, including version control, code review, automated testing, CI/CD and an understanding of data quality and reliability.
- Ability to collaborate effectively across Product, Engineering, Analytics and client-facing teams, explaining complex data concepts clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ability to work autonomously, navigate ambiguity and influence others while balancing immediate delivery with maintainability, scalability and reuse.
We run a modern cloud data platform using key technologies such as:
- Postgres source databases
- AWS cloud infrastructure
- Databricks Delta Lake for data lake and warehouse storage and querying
- DBT for data modelling and transformations
- Python as main scripting language
- Airflow for task scheduling
- Kubernetes for orchestration
- Github, Circle CI for version control, deployment and monitoring
⭐️Bonus points:
- Experience in energy, utilities or other regulated industries
- Experience supporting customer data migrations, system implementations or enterprise transformation programmes.
- Familiarity with AWS, Airflow, Kubernetes and CircleCI.
