Job Summary

Actemium Automation Huddersfield is seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead the successful delivery of industrial automation and control system projects. The role involves managing projects from initial planning and design through to installation, testing, commissioning and handover, ensuring that projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget and to the required quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage industrial automation, control systems projects from concept through to completion.
  • Develop project plans, programmes, budgets, resource requirements and delivery strategies.
  • Coordinate project activities across engineering, software, procurement, manufacturing, installation and commissioning teams.
  • Manage project scope, costs, schedules, risks, dependencies, change control and commercial performance.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for customers, suppliers, subcontractors and internal stakeholders.
  • Monitor project progress and provide regular updates, reports and forecasts to customers and senior management.
  • Ensure project deliverables meet technical specifications, contractual requirements, quality standards and customer expectations.
  • Support the preparation and review of project documentation, including specifications, schedules, risk assessments and method statements.
  • Coordinate Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs), Site Acceptance Tests (SATs), installation activities and commissioning programmes.
  • Identify, assess and manage project risks, issues and opportunities, implementing effective mitigation and recovery plans.
  • Manage procurement activities, supplier relationships and subcontractor performance where required.
  • Maintain accurate project records and ensure effective project close-out, handover and lessons-learned activities.
  • Promote continuous improvement and maintain high standards of health, safety, environmental compliance and quality throughout project delivery.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Proven experience managing engineering, automation, control systems projects within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of project management principles, processes, tools and delivery methodologies.
  • Experience managing project budgets, schedules, resources, risks, change and commercial requirements.
  • Knowledge of industrial automation, PLC, SCADA, HMI, control panel or electrical systems would be advantageous.
  • Ability to read and understand technical specifications, engineering drawings, electrical schematics and project documentation.
  • Strong organisational skills with a structured, proactive and commercially aware approach.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, both written and verbal.
  • Confident negotiating with customers, suppliers and subcontractors to achieve successful project outcomes.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and project management or planning software.
  • Commitment to health, safety, quality and environmental standards.
  • Ability to travel to customer and project sites in the UK as required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Recognised qualification in Project Management, Engineering, Automation, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Experience delivering projects within manufacturing, process, infrastructure, utilities or other industrial sectors.
  • Understanding of CDM regulations, construction site requirements and engineering project health and safety practices.
  • Experience with project scheduling, cost control, contract management and formal change management.
  • Experience within the water industry is desirable but not essential; candidates with relevant project delivery experience from other industrial sectors will also be considered.
