Overview
Join Reynolds Consumer Products…and Drive Your Career across a world of opportunities!
We currently have an opportunity for a Engineering Manager at our Manufacturing Facility in Jacksonville, IL.
Responsibilities
The Engineering Manager will oversee the technical operations, equipment reliability, and process optimizations for our high-volume, 24/7 plastic extrusion and bag converting manufacturing plant. This leadership role directs a team of process engineers, maintenance technicians, and automation specialists to maximize uptime, reduce material scrap, and improve product quality across blown film lines and high-speed bag-making machinery. The ideal candidate balances strong personnel leadership with deep technical expertise in polymer resins, die optimization, and downstream conversion equipment.
You Will Have the Opportunity to Make Great Things Happen!
Process Optimization & Technology Implementation
- Lead the technical design, parameter configuration, and optimization of blown film/track extrusion lines and bag-converting machinery.
- Drive continuous improvement projects using Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies to target gauge variation, gauge-band reduction, and raw material waste.
- Evaluate and introduce new technologies, including advanced automation, inline gauge controls, resin-blending systems, and modern die designs.
- Troubleshoot complex structural quality defects such as film wrinkles, poor heat seals, print quality, weak tensile strength, or gauge instability.
Capital Projects & Asset Management
- Own the Capital Expenditure (CapEx) budget, establishing timelines, vendor quotes, and ROI evaluations for new machinery installations and facility upgrades.
- Oversee tooling and die maintenance programs to ensure proper cleaning, polishing, and configuration for custom bag specifications.
- Partner with the Maintenance Department to transform reactive repairs into a robust, data-driven Preventative Maintenance (PM) program for extruders, winders, and converting lines.
Team Leadership & Safety
- Manage, mentor, and develop a technical team comprising process engineers, maintenance supervisors, and automation resources.
- Foster a safety-first culture compliant with OSHA guidelines, ensuring all machinery is equipped with appropriate guarding, interlocks, and LOTO (Lockout/Tagout) mechanisms.
- Establish Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and build cross-functional training matrices to bridge the technical knowledge gap between production floors and engineering departments.
You Will Love It Here If…
- You listen, learn, and evolve
- You thrive in a fast-paced environment
- You put safety first, always
- You are passionate about collaboration, teamwork, and achieving shared goals
- You believe in treating all people with respect, operating ethically, and growing a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace
- You are committed to improving our impact on local communities and creating positive experiences
Qualifications

- 6+ years of experience engineering experience within a plastics manufacturing plant, with at least 2–3 years in a supervisory or management capacity.
Preferred
- Familiarity with controls systems, PLC automation architectures, and inline vision inspection technologies.
- Ability to interface seamlessly with quality control labs regarding resin melt-flow indexing and mechanical film testing.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Strong working knowledge of blown/cast film extrusion, high-density/low-density polyethylene resins (HDPE, LDPE, LLDPE), and high-speed bag-making lines (e.g., bottom-seal, side-weld, zipper profile inserts).
- Proven history of leading continuous improvement frameworks (Lean, 6S, Six Sigma) with tangible scrap reduction outcomes.
- Strong financial literacy related to project budgeting, cost justification, and scrap dollar calculation.
Competencies
- Ensures Accountability – Establishes clear expectations and holds the technical team accountable for engineering performance, equipment reliability, and continuous improvement outcomes.
