  • Define reference service structures and conventions for new backend services.
  • Set backend and API standards for REST and gRPC, enforced through code reviews and automated checks.
  • Own messaging and event architecture, including delivery guarantees, ordering and idempotency.
  • Set security, observability and resilience standards for backend services.
  • Write production code, build shared libraries and proofs of concept, and modernize legacy backend services.
  • Collaborate with architects, engineering teams and stakeholders to translate business requirements into robust, scalable solutions.
  • Mentor engineers and establish backend best practices across the global engineering organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science, Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years of hands-on backend engineering, including several years architecting distributed services used by more than one team.
  • Fluency in English; additional languages would be considered an advantage.
  • Expert proficiency in Python and asynchronous programming, and production experience with modern Python frameworks such as FastAPI.
  • Deep expertise in distributed systems, event-driven design and API development (REST, gRPC).
  • Strong data architecture skills across SQL and NoSQL databases: schema design, complex queries, query optimization and performance tuning.
  • Hands-on experience with Kafka and Redis.
  • Experience designing high-throughput financial systems, such as ledgers, payments or balance processing.
  • Strong background in Docker and CI/CD, with working knowledge of observability stacks.
  • Experience with AWS, Kubernetes and Next.js is a nice to have.
  • Excellent communicator who can translate complex technical concepts for diverse stakeholders.
