Senior Backend Engineer, Golang - Core Platform

We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join the Core Platform team behind authentication, access management and publishing on a global Tax Research Platform.

You will work primarily in Go on core backend services and play an important role in the modernisation of the existing identity and access landscape.

A key project is the migration to Keycloak and the gradual replacement of legacy services. The role combines hands-on backend development with significant technical ownership. You will be expected to understand problems, propose solutions, break work down and take responsibility for delivery rather than simply work from predefined tickets.

New backend development is primarily done in Go, while parts of the existing landscape still include Java and legacy technologies that are being modernised.

What you will do

• Build and maintain backend services in Go

• Work on authentication, authorisation and identity-related services

• Contribute to the implementation and integration of Keycloak

• Help modernise and replace legacy backend components

• Design and evolve secure REST APIs

• Work with microservices, distributed systems and event-driven architecture

• Contribute to publishing workflows and core platform services

• Take ownership of features from technical design through production

• Identify technical trade-offs and propose practical solutions

• Contribute to testing, CI/CD, monitoring, observability and operational reliability

• Work closely with the technical lead, specialist Keycloak engineers and other development teams

• Help improve engineering standards and share knowledge across the team

What we are looking for

• Strong hands-on production experience with Go

• Proven senior-level backend engineering experience

• Ability to work independently and take ownership of technical problems

• Hands-on Keycloak experience is strongly preferred

• Experience with identity and access management

• Practical experience with OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect and/or SAML

• Strong experience designing and building REST APIs

• Experience with microservices and distributed systems

• Solid system design skills

• Experience with event-driven architectures and messaging

• Experience with Kubernetes and Docker

• Experience with CI/CD and automated testing

• Experience with cloud platforms; the environment runs on Azure/AKS, but experience with other cloud platforms is equally relevant

• Experience with monitoring and observability

• Experience modernising or refactoring legacy systems

• Strong communication skills and fluent English

Around eight years of backend engineering experience is a useful benchmark, but it is not a strict requirement. The focus is on genuine seniority, technical depth, autonomy and the ability to take ownership.

A strong Go engineer with relevant IAM experience can be an excellent fit. Candidates with a strong Java background, production Go experience and substantial Keycloak experience can also be considered, although strong Go capability is preferred for the long term.

The team

You will join an existing international engineering team rather than a separate outsourced delivery team.

The current setup includes experienced internal engineers as well as specialist Keycloak support. The role is highly hands-on and gives senior engineers room to influence how technical work is approached.

You should be comfortable working on problems that are not already fully broken down. Senior engineers are expected to help define the solution, structure the work and communicate technical options and trade-offs.

Working model

The role is based in Serbia through Talcom.

The working model is 3 days per week from a Talcom office and 2 days from home.

The role includes an initial one-week visit to the Netherlands, with occasional follow-up visits when useful for onboarding, planning or team collaboration.

Compensation

Up to approximately €3,100 net per month.
