Job Overview:

APTIM is seeking a Project Manager to support design-build construction projects at the Alabama Port Authority in Mobile, Alabama.  This is a field office position to provide project management for medium- to large-scale maintenance activities and capital projects in support of terminal operations at the port.  The port field office is supported by an APTIM engineering office in Mobile, Alabama.  The primary terminal is McDuffie Coal Terminal which includes railcar and barge coal receiving, material transfer and staging, and ship loading.  Strong interpersonal skills are required, including the ability to communicate clearly and confidently, both written and verbally, to all project team members including client representatives and APTIM colleagues alike.

The ideal candidate will work closely with project team members to support Project Initiation (preliminary development of project scope of work, cost, schedule, work breakdown structure, and risk assessment), manage Project Development & Planning (scope refinement and detailed planning), manage Project Monitoring & Control during Project Execution (cost, schedule, risk, and change control) and manage Project Close Out.   

 

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

  • Plan, organize, coordinate, and control the project in accordance with established policies, procedures, systems, and requirements
  • Develop detailed estimates, project schedules, work breakdown structure, project execution plans, risk and contingency assessment, and project management plan for overall project implementation.
  • Manage several projects simultaneously
  • Direct preparation of project plans and manage project scope, budget, schedule, risk, and change in accordance with the approved project charter and the project's safety, quality, technical and financial goals
  • Coordinate with McDuffie Terminal Operations General Manager and Maintenance General Manager to coordinate activities and schedules.
  • Manage multiple contractors, vendors, and suppliers as well as project oversight personnel
  • Provide leadership, direction and coordination for all project team members
  • Monitor contractor’s project safety and quality programs
  • Manage the project to meet or exceed financial and cash management goals
  • Supervise daily activities of project personnel including technical and administrative support, and produce deliverables on schedule and within budget
  • Develop project review materials and financial forecasting, working with McDuffie Terminal’s Project Controls
  • Maintain conformance to applicable technical standards as well as Alabama Port Authority policies and procedures.
  • Anticipate problems; develop innovative solutions that are consistent with organizational objectives
  • Manage project close out to reconcile cost and schedule, close contracts and purchase orders, complete financial close out, archive documents/records, and develop lessons learned.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Must have a minimum of 8 years of experience in technical project execution with 5 of the 8 years being in project management.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field.
  • Has developed depth of expertise in own discipline and broad knowledge of other disciplines
  • Must possess excellent report writing, organization, and project management skills, with the ability to work in a field office.
  • Anticipate senior management needs to influence the development of innovative solutions
  • Anticipate internal/external business and regulatory issues; recommends process/product improvements
  • Be able to work independently with minimal supervision and with our multidisciplinary team of professionals and staff
  • Demonstrated strength in written and verbal communication skills suitable to a consulting environment.
  • Ability to acquire Transportation Worker Identification Credentials (TWIC) and Alabama Port Authority access badge

As of the date of this posting, a good faith estimate of the current pay range for this position is $135-160K per year and depends on several factors including: experience, education, key skills, geographic location of the position, client requirements, external market competitiveness, and internal equity among other employees within APTIM.
