Project Manager

Saber Power Services, LLC, (SPS) located in Houston, TX is a nationally recognized full service, EPC, specialty engineering, procurement, construction and testing and commissioning company specializing in complex medium and high voltage electrical infrastructure in North America.

The Project Manager is responsible for managing all aspects of assigned high voltage substation and transmission line construction projects. This includes oversight of engineering, procurement, scheduling, construction, and closeout activities. The PM ensures projects are completed safely, on time, and within budget while meeting technical and quality specifications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Lifecycle Management: Oversee the full lifecycle of transmission line and substation construction projects (5kV–500kV), 480V-35kv PCR buildings, from pre-construction planning through commissioning and final turnover.
  • Project Planning & Execution: Develop and implement comprehensive project execution plans, budgets, and schedules in coordination with estimating, engineering, and field teams, ensuring alignment with project scope, timeline, and financial targets.
  • Stakeholder Coordination: Act as the primary point of contact for utility clients, engineers, inspectors, subcontractors, vendors, and internal teams, ensuring consistent and effective communication throughout all project phases.
  • Contract & Budget Oversight: Manage project budgets and financial performance; track costs, review invoices, and ensure adherence to contract terms and financial objectives in collaboration with the finance team.
  • Risk & Issue Management: Identify and assess project risks and issues; develop and implement mitigation strategies to minimize impact and maintain project continuity.
  • Compliance & Safety Assurance: Ensure all work complies with applicable codes (NESC), utility standards, OSHA regulations, and internal safety protocols.
  • Environmental & Regulatory Coordination: Manage environmental permitting, right-of-way access, and outage scheduling in collaboration with relevant authorities and stakeholders.
  • Quality Control & Site Oversight: Conduct regular job site visits to monitor safety, quality, and progress, ensuring project deliverables meet established standards and client expectations.
  • Reporting & Documentation: Prepare and deliver detailed project status reports, including progress metrics, risk assessments, schedule updates, and strategic recommendations to leadership and clients.
  • Subcontractor & Vendor Management: Oversee subcontractor and vendor performance, ensuring timely delivery of materials, services, and equipment while maintaining high standards of quality and accountability.
  • Strategic Input & Decision-Making: Provide strategic guidance on project planning and execution; contribute to high-level decisions that impact project success and client relationships.
  • Continuous Improvement: Participate in post-project evaluations, capturing lessons learned and contributing to the development of best practices and process improvements.
  • Perform other project-related duties as assigned by management to support organizational goals.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • 5 years of experience managing high voltage electrical projects (substation and transmission).
  • Strong understanding of transmission line construction methods, equipment, and standards.
  • Proven experience with EPC projects or utility customer turnkey delivery.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and protection/control one-lines.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Experience with project management software and scheduling tools (e.g., MS Project, Primavera P6).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
  • PMP Certification or formal project management training.
  • OSHA 30, First Aid/CPR, or other safety certifications.
  • Familiarity with utility interconnection requirements and outage coordination.
