Full description
Senior Data Analyst
At WSP, we’re looking for a Senior Data Analyst to join our Digital team in Brisbane and help deliver advanced analytics, business intelligence, and data engineering solutions for complex client and engineering challenges. This role will suit someone who enjoys working with large, varied datasets, translating business problems into practical data-led solutions, and turning complex technical insight into clear recommendations for clients and project teams.
You’ll work across multidisciplinary projects, collaborating with engineering, digital, location intelligence, and subject matter experts to support infrastructure, asset, and operational decision-making. Many of our clients operate large-scale network-based systems, including road, rail, and water supply networks, so this is an opportunity to apply your analytical expertise to work that has real community impact.
What you’ll do
As a Senior Data Analyst, you’ll lead client and stakeholder discussions to understand business needs, define analytical questions, validate assumptions, and shape practical solutions. You’ll break down complex problems into structured analytical steps, defining inputs, outputs, risks, data needs, assumptions, and repeatable workflows that others can follow.
You’ll gather, analyse, process, and model large structured and unstructured datasets, including complex or messy data sources, to create actionable plans and recommendations. You’ll also apply statistical, analytical, and BI methods to interpret results, test hypotheses, identify trends, challenge assumptions, and uncover future-ready solutions to client challenges.
A key part of the role will be developing, maintaining, and improving data pipelines, data models, dashboards, reports, and quality controls using appropriate digital tools, cloud services, and analytics platforms. You’ll also prepare and review high-level technical information, including reports, memos, presentations, models, software, and data outputs.
You’ll provide technical guidance, mentoring, and feedback to junior team members, helping build capability across analytics, BI, data management, documentation, and quality practices. You’ll also contribute to strong client relationships by communicating technical issues clearly, responding to feedback, and supporting proposals, pursuits, and future project opportunities.
What we’ll love about you
You’ll bring at least five years’ experience in data analytics, business intelligence, data science, digital, or a related technical environment. You’ll have demonstrated experience working across complex and multidisciplinary projects, ideally in client-facing environments where you’ve translated technical outputs into clear, useful recommendations.
You’ll be confident working with complex structured and unstructured data, including messy datasets from operational systems, smart devices, spatial sources, emails, or other varied sources. You’ll understand how to design repeatable analytical workflows, document assumptions, manage data risks, and turn findings into practical insights.
You’ll have strong hands-on capability across data transformation, modelling, reporting, dashboarding, and BI platforms such as Power BI. Experience with Python, SQL, relational and structured data manipulation, data warehousing, cloud data services such as Azure and/or AWS, and analytics or modelling software will also be important.
You’ll bring a sound understanding of statistical concepts and methods, along with the ability to support others in applying statistics to decision-making. You’ll also understand data quality, governance, compliance, privacy, ethical AI, transparency, and bias considerations in analytical solutions.
Experience with FME, GIS, Ellipse, asset data, infrastructure, engineering domains, or Python-based software development would be highly regarded, but is not essential. Experience in engineering and infrastructure industries such as mining, transport, property and buildings, or environmental science would also be favourable.
About you
You’ll be someone who enjoys solving complex problems, working with stakeholders, and creating analytical frameworks that are practical, repeatable, and easy for others to understand. You’ll be comfortable balancing technical detail with commercial and client outcomes, and you’ll have the communication skills to bring people along the journey.
You’ll also value collaboration, quality, accountability, and continuous improvement, and you’ll be motivated by the opportunity to contribute to projects that support better infrastructure, asset, and operational outcomes.
