Purpose of the Role 

 

You will be one of our key contributors who guide and foster innovation by designing and developing our data solutions architecture for our leading-edge products within CI. 

 

You will work collaboratively to solve interesting and challenging problems in a cross functional team with other engineering disciplines including Software Engineers, Platform Engineers, Test Engineers, Site Reliability Engineers and Systems Engineers. 

 

The analytics team is missioned to build operational insight and analytics applications for our core connectivity services. In this team you'll have a unique opportunity to have first-hand exposure to the strategy of the company in key cloud and edge device initiatives. 

 

You also have opportunities to go through the whole lifecycle of products and services, participating in each phase and have the whole picture of what you are working on. 

 

As an engineer who is passionate about technology, you will use the most effective and applicable technologies to create robust and scalable software that runs in the cloud or on the edge. 

 

You will work on a variety of challenges towards product or solution deliverables, often highly complex and based around mission critical systems that combines capabilities like data streaming, aggregation, asset management, monitoring, reporting and visualisation. 

 

Principal Accountabilities 

 

As a Senior Data Solutions Engineer who is passionate about technology, you will use the most effective and applicable technologies to design, create and improve the CI Data Platform offering and integrate it with operational products. 

 

You will learn how to leverage existing open-source software to extend our capabilities, integrating and tailoring software to suit customers’ needs. 

 

You will champion architectural and technical good practise across the analytics and software development teams, from initiation through the whole product lifecycle. 

 

Location

This role is based at our head office in central Woking. The role is included in our hybrid working policy with the expectation of a minimum of two days a week in the office, which should be co-ordinated with other members of the Engineering team. 

 

Basic Qualifications  

We are looking for an applicant who has: 

  • Bachelor's degree in a numerate discipline: Maths, Physics, Computer Science, Statistics, Engineering. 
  • Experience in solving engineering or real world problems using data solutions. 
  • Demonstrable interest in the fields of data analytics

and software 

  • Proficiency in Python programming language and common data science packages. 
  • Experience with data engineering tools (e.g. Apache Spark, AWS Glue, Kinesis, Snowflake, Apache Airflow) 
  • Experience in building data pipelines and data streaming applications. 
  • Experience with tools to support the software and analytics development workflow (e.g. data provenance, experiment/pipeline management, git, CI/CD) 
  • Interest and ability to learn other coding languages as needed 
  • Good understanding of agile or lean development practices.  
  • Ability to write and speak in English fluently 

 

Desirable & Development Areas 

Some of the below would be beneficial to the applicant, but opportunities to develop in these areas will also be provided: 

  • Demonstrable technical specialism in one of the following: Data Science, Machine Learning, Optimisation, Operations Research, Statistics, AI Engineering. 
  • Leveraging latest AI and Agentic tooling to assist in all stages of the development lifecycle 
  • Experience in building data storage solutions 
  • Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform preferred) 
  • Understanding of containerisation (Docker) and container orchestration (Kubernetes) 
  • Demonstrable experience of writing clean, maintainable code.  
  • Experience with AWS or other cloud computing providers 
  • Experience with signal processing and time-series analysis
