What You Will Do

At Independent Software, as a DevOps Software Engineer Level 3, you will support the development, deployment, and administration of complex mission-critical systems. This highly customer-facing role combines software engineering, DevOps, Kubernetes, Linux, and infrastructure automation in support of satellite communications systems.

You will work with cross-functional teams to develop and deploy solutions using C++ or Python, Kubernetes, GPU technologies, and modern DevOps practices while helping ensure systems meet operational and user requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, deploy, and sustain mission-critical software and infrastructure solutions
  • Develop software and automation using C++ and/or Python
  • Design, deploy, configure, and troubleshoot Kubernetes environments
  • Support containerized applications, cluster networking, storage, monitoring, and security
  • Automate system configuration and deployment using Ansible, Bash, Python, and Git-based workflows
  • Configure, troubleshoot, and secure Linux environments, including RHEL and Rocky Linux
  • Support CI/CD pipelines, GitOps workflows, and automated testing
  • Troubleshoot networking, software, infrastructure, and deployment issues
  • Collaborate directly with customers and engineering teams to gather requirements and deliver technical solutions
  • Support GPU technologies and satellite/RF-related applications

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Strong Software Engineering and/or DevOps experience
  • Development experience with C++ and/or Python
  • Advanced Linux administration and troubleshooting experience
  • Experience with Kubernetes and containerized applications
  • Experience with DevOps, Git-based workflows, CI/CD, and automation
  • Experience with Ansible and/or similar automation technologies
  • Strong troubleshooting and customer-facing communication skills

  • Rancher and RKE2
  • Kubernetes cluster design, lifecycle management, networking, storage, security, and high availability
  • Helm and CNCF technologies
  • CKA certification
  • Ansible playbook and role development
  • Bash, Go, YAML, and JSON
  • GPU technologies
  • Networking, including switching, routing, and VLANs
  • PXE boot and automated OS deployment
  • RF data processing, RF application development, and/or satellite communications experience

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline plus twenty (20) years of relevant Software Engineering experience; OR
  • Twenty-four (24) years of relevant Software Engineering experience may be substituted for the Bachelor’s degree.

Clearance Requirement:  • Must possess an active TS SCI with appropriate Polygraph to be considered for this role
