The coating departments’ Quality Assurance Tech ensures the quality of coated grass seed at the Tangent warehouse at Barenbrug USA. This position works closely with the coating supervisor; monitoring and maintaining equipment; evaluating samples for accurate blending; and providing feedback to improve processes.

Essential Functions

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Checks dryer temperature of seed every hour and adds to log.
  • Takes seed samples and notifies operator concerning any irregularities in the seed and making proper adjustments.
  • Checks humidity and seed moisture hourly and adds to log.
  • Ensures bag size/type are correct.
  • Verifies paperwork, comparing lot information on bag with blend sheet.
  • Follow instructions on blend sheet.
  • Develops quality control procedures.
  • Collects test samples for lab.
  • Determines durability of seed and adds to log.
  • Use a handheld inkjet printer for orders requiring stencil.
  • Performs other job-related duties and responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time.

Quality Assurance Progression Levels

Quality Control Level 1 – Proficient with proper sampling procedures, lab testing protocols and testing functions, as well as QC test data entry.

Quality Control Level 2 – Includes all Level 1 proficiencies plus a functional understanding of what plant adjustments are needed based on QC results (dryer & burner settings, raw material adjustments, etc.). Fully proficient in raw materials testing, confirmation, screening, and troubleshooting sub-par QC results.

Quality Control Level 3 – Includes all Level 1 & 2 responsibilities, plus:

  • Fully proficient in departmental data/work-order input functions.
  • Ability to manage the production schedule to desired efficiency.
  • Ability to manage staffing hours against workload.
  • Ability to positively lead and train others into all departmental roles.

Requirements

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Knowledge of QA procedures and record keeping.
  • Basic knowledge of computer software applications.
  • Knowledge and understanding of coating procedures.

Required Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Warehouse experience

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment

This position operates in a warehouse and office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, filing cabinets, stationery, printers, etc.

The employee is occasionally required to: climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. There may be frequent lifting and/or moving objects up to 50 pounds. The employee must often stand or walk on concrete for long periods of time.
