(Agentic) Product Manager
Backbase Amsterdam, North Holland, Netherlands
Financial Services · 1,001-5,000 employees
About the role
You will lead the product strategy and execution for the Workflows & Orchestration pillar, owning the complete customer journey from concept to market. You will collaborate with peer PMs to ensure seamless integration across data connectors and AI agents while driving cross-functional alignment.
What they look for
Requirements
The ideal candidate has 5+ years of experience shipping complex platform or infrastructure products and possesses strong technical fluency. You must demonstrate the ability to navigate ambiguity, synthesize customer needs, and lead zero-to-one product launches.
Full description
About This Role
We are building a durable execution process engine – a platform that bridges enterprise workflow automation and intelligent agent orchestration. This is a zero-to-one product launch from concept to market.
You will lead the product strategy and execution for one of three interconnected pillars in the platform (Durable Processes, Data Connectors, AI Agents). Working alongside peer PMs and reporting to the Group PM, you'll own the complete customer journey: from defining what we build, to shipping it, to ensuring it lands with users.
This role is for a PM who has shipped complex, multi-layer platform products before and who thrives in the tension between technical ambition and customer reality.
The Product Vision
A durable execution engine that scales from developer laptops to enterprise clouds, bringing workflow automation, intelligent agents, and real-time data integration into one coherent platform.
Modern enterprises are stuck. Legacy workflow systems are rigid and don't integrate with AI. Code-first pipelines (Airflow, Temporal) give developers freedom but leave business analysts behind. We're building the bridge.
Our platform will:
- Work for multiple personas – Business analysts author visually, engineers deploy as code, operators observe in real time. No translation layer needed.
- Treat AI as native – Intelligent agents aren't bolted on; they're first-class actors in the process execution model with full auditability and compliance guardrails.
- Connect everything – Data from any source (APIs, databases, message queues, cloud services) flows naturally through your processes without custom plumbing.
- Build toward Horizon's sophistication – Our long-term ambition is to deliver agentic orchestration depth comparable to the best-in-class products in the market.
The result: enterprises can automate complex work faster, with more control, and with confidence that their processes will execute reliably at scale.
What You'll Own
Strategic ownership
- Define the product roadmap for Workflows & Orchestration – what customers need, what moves the needle, what builds defensible value
- Make the hard calls: what ships in MVP, what is post-launch, what never ships
- Own the competitive positioning – position durable processes as a first-class pillar of an integrated platform, not a standalone point solution
- Shape both pro-code and no-code experiences – own SDKs, CLI, and visual editor consistency; documentation and learning paths across both personas
Execution leadership
- Lead cross-functional alignment (eng, design, marketing, sales) on priorities and milestones
- Conduct customer discovery: who are we building for, what problems do they have, what's blocking adoption
- Make data-driven decisions: usage patterns, customer feedback, performance metrics all inform direction
- Unblock ambiguity: when technical direction isn't clear, you synthesize information and move forward decisively
Partnership with peer PMs
- You're not alone – work collaboratively with two peer IC PMs who own the Data Connectors and AI Agents pillars
- Establish clear integration points and contract boundaries so all three pillars (Durable Processes, Data Connectors, AI Agents) work together seamlessly
- Escalate only real conflicts up to the Group PM; resolve most decisions at your level
We're Looking For
Experience shipping one or more of the following:
Complex infrastructure or platform products · Enterprise workflow or automation systems · Products that span multiple user personas (business analysts, developers, operators) · Products that required deep technical integration · Zero-to-one launches where you shaped initial product-market fit.
Core capabilities
- Technical fluency – You read code, understand architecture constraints, and can have a real conversation with engineers about feasibility and tradeoffs. You don't need to be an engineer, but you think like one.
- Customer obsession with realism – You spend time with users, but you're not a feature-request transcriber. You synthesize what they need from what they say.
- Decisiveness under ambiguity – You make calls with incomplete information. You're comfortable killing ideas you love if data suggests they won't work.
- Communication across layers – You talk to engineers about latency budgets, to customers about compliance, to executives about roadmap priorities. Different audiences, same honesty.
- Systems thinking – You see how pieces connect. Developer SDKs influence adoption patterns. Pricing models influence feature prioritization. You optimize for the system, not the local maximum.
- AI native – You’re using LLMs as part of your product workflow and can adapt to any tool easily. We currently use Claude Code and Cursor.
Nice to have
- 5+ years of relevant experience as a Product Manager, with a strong focus on platform products.
- Exposure to workflow engines, BPM systems, or process orchestration platforms (Camunda, Zeebe, Airflow, Temporal).
- Experience with enterprise compliance requirements (SOC 2, PCI-DSS, HIPAA) and how they shape product architecture.
- Understanding of multi-tenant SaaS scaling challenges and tradeoffs
- Previous zero-to-one product launch where you defined the initial MVP and shaped early-stage product-market fit.
- Experience building features using LLMs (it can be a hobby project).
