Role Summary
We are looking for an experienced Smart Hands Support Engineer with strong exposure to physical datacenter operations, hands-on infrastructure support, and transition coordination. The ideal candidate should have practical experience working across datacenter environments, server rooms, and remote site locations, and should be capable of supporting both day-to-day physical infrastructure activities and transition-related information gathering from incumbent teams across all sites and datacenters.
This role requires someone who is comfortable in a field/onsite support model, has strong understanding of rack-and-stack activities, cabling, hardware handling, inventory validation, asset verification, and remote hands support, and can also assist in documenting existing site infrastructure, operational processes, dependencies, and handover details as part of a transition or takeover program.

Key Responsibilities
Datacenter Smart Hands Support
- Provide onsite Smart Hands support for physical datacenter and site infrastructure activities.
- Perform rack and stack of servers, storage, network, and related hardware components.
- Handle cabling, patching, labeling, hardware installation, de-installation, and relocation activities.
- Support power cycling, device reboot, physical health checks, and LED / console-based diagnostics.
- Assist in hardware replacement activities such as disks, memory, power supplies, NICs, and other field-replaceable units.
- Coordinate with remote engineering teams for troubleshooting and execution of physical tasks inside the datacenter.
- Support hands and eyes activities for network, server, storage, and backup infrastructure.
- Install and replace Field Replaceable Units (FRUs), including: Power supplies, Fan trays, Line cards, Supervisor modules, Interface cards, SSDs and memory modules
- Install and replace SFP, SFP+, QSFP, and other transceiver modules.
- Verify hardware serial numbers, model numbers, and asset tags.
- Install, replace, and organize copper and fiber optic patch cables.
- Perform cable tracing and cable verification.
- Label cables, ports, patch panels, and network equipment.
- Verify rack unit (RU) allocation.
- Install rack rails, mounting brackets, and blanking panels.
- Connect to devices using console cables when required.
- Replace failed hardware under NOC guidance.
- Verify interface status, link LEDs, and physical connectivity.
- Support planned maintenance and migration activities.
Site and Datacenter Information Gathering
- Work closely with the incumbent team to gather and validate detailed information for all sites, server rooms, and datacenters in scope.
- Capture details related to:
- Site and datacenter locations
- Rack layouts and floor plans
- Device inventory and asset details
- Power connections and redundancy details
- Network patching and cabling information
- ISP / WAN / LAN connectivity details
- Access procedures and security requirements
- Existing operational processes and support contacts
- Hardware lifecycle and warranty information
- Assist in building a site-wise/datacenter-wise inventory and transition repository.
- Verify physical assets against available documentation and identify mismatches, gaps, and risks.
- Support collection of information required for transition, KT, operational readiness, and support planning.
Transition & Incumbent Coordination
- Participate in transition workshops, site surveys, and incumbent handover sessions.
- Document current-state infrastructure and operational procedures from the incumbent team.
- Work with tower leads and service delivery teams to ensure all physical site information is collected accurately.
- Highlight risks, missing data, unsupported hardware, access gaps, and operational dependencies during takeover.
- Support due diligence and discovery activities for new sites and datacenter onboarding.
Operations & Governance
- Maintain accurate records for assets, cabling, rack positioning, hardware movement, site readiness, and access controls.
- Ensure all work is performed in line with datacenter safety, security, and change management procedures.
- Support incident, service request, IMACD (Install, Move, Add, Change, Dispose), and break-fix activities.
- Coordinate with OEM / vendor engineers for onsite hardware support and escort assistance if required.
- Create and maintain site documentation, checklists, SOPs, handover notes, and audit-ready records.
Required Skills & Experience
Mandatory Skills
- Hands-on experience in physical datacenter / site support / Smart Hands operations
- Strong understanding of:
- Rack and stack operations
- Structured cabling and patching
- Server, network, and storage hardware handling
- Inventory and asset verification
- Onsite troubleshooting and remote hands support
- Experience working in datacenter environments, server rooms, and enterprise sites
- Ability to gather, validate, and document infrastructure details from incumbent teams
- Familiarity with hardware labeling, rack elevation documentation, and physical asset management
- Basic understanding of network devices, servers, storage systems, UPS/power layouts, and connectivity
- Knowledge of datacenter access, safety, security, and change procedures
- Good communication skills for coordinating with remote teams, vendors, and customer stakeholders
- Ability to travel to sites/datacenters as required
Preferred Skills
- Experience in transition / takeover projects
- Exposure to CMDB, asset management tools, ticketing tools, and documentation repositories
- Basic knowledge of Windows/Linux server hardware environments
- Familiarity with OEM hardware such as Dell, HPE, Cisco, Lenovo, NetApp, EMC, etc.
- Understanding of ITIL-based support processes
- Experience in site surveys, floor validation, and infrastructure audits
Experience Required
- 3+ to 7+ years of relevant experience in Smart Hands / Datacenter Support / Field Infrastructure Support
- Experience in handling multiple sites or distributed datacenter environments
- Prior exposure to knowledge transition, incumbent handover, or discovery activities is highly preferred
Educational Qualifications
- Diploma / Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Electronics, Computer Science, or related field
- Relevant certifications in hardware, datacenter operations, or infrastructure support are an advantage
