Overview

This position will be responsible for the technical delivery and ongoing third-line support of all Benefits technology software globally. This includes legacy Platforms in data centers as well as the modernized cloud Platform and any Benefits-related applications from future mergers and acquisitions. Benefits is a collective term for the Health & Welfare (HW) business in North America and Flexible Benefits in the UK.

The role involves collaboration with the Benefits businesses, product groups, other IT groups, and the technical solutions delivery teams (a talented team of over 50+ professionals).

The Global Benefits Services role is to develop the technology solutions for the GBS business in the USA, Canada, and Europe with a roll-out expected in India and Australia.

Gallagher is undergoing a large modernization initiative, transforming applications and services from traditional client/server to native services in Azure and building shared capabilities between the various product groups.

Gallagher has adopted an agile way of working between the business, product group, and technology teams. The Benefits business deliver services supported by the technology platform Gallagher Guide directly to employers. The Product group define the feature requirements with user stories to support the Benefits business in that delivery. They prioritize the user stories for the Platform team develop, test and deliver Gallagher Guide technology enhancements.

Gallagher Guide has a collective for each Product line as well as one for the Shared Capabilities. Each Collective is split into squads and the work for each squad is managed by a scrum master using Azure DevOps Services. Sprints are conducted throughout the quarterly program increments. This position has a close relationship with the Benefits Collective Lead from the Product group as well as with the other Collective Delivery Leads.

How you'll make an impact

Delivery Leadership

• Implement architectural decisions for our Benefits product portfolio, built on technologies like Angular, Microsoft C#.NET and SQL Server/Services.
• Collaborate with global teams to design and deliver innovative, cloud-based solutions on Microsoft Azure.
• Act as a trusted advisor to business leaders and the product group, translating their needs into technical solutions.
• Coordinate multiple workstreams, ensuring projects are delivered on time and meeting customer expectations.
• Build strong relationships with internal teams and external clients, acting as a key point of contact for IT-related queries.
• Stay ahead of trends in the Benefits industry and regulatory changes in each country where Gallagher Guide is delivered.
• Own end-to- end delivery of technology initiatives, product functionality, and platform enhancements.
• Develop and manage delivery plans, roadmaps, milestones, dependencies, and risks.
• Ensure projects are delivered within agreed timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
• Lead delivery governance, reporting, and stakeholder communications. Contribute to DevOps development activities and complex development tasks.
• Work on designing/implementing/automating procedures for deployment, configuration, patching and upgrading of Benefits systems and applications.
• Conduct analysis of production systems and performance testing results to identify areas of improvement within the application or infrastructure.
• Work closely with vendors, internal groups, and outside agencies.
• Independently analyze, solve, and correct issues in real time, providing problem resolution end-to-end.

Team Oversight

• Coordinate cross-functional teams, including Architects, Developers, QA Engineers, and Scrum Masters.
• Provide mentoring and guidance for more junior members of the software engineering team, offering feedback targeted at individual development.
• Support teams in removing delivery impediments and managing competing priorities.
• Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
• Cover absences for the Collective Delivery Lead or others when necessary.

Stakeholder Engagement

• Build strong relationships with business sponsors, product owners, and senior leadership.
• Translate business requirements into deliverable technical outcomes.
• Provide regular updates on progress, risks, issues, and mitigation plans.

Technical Oversight

• Work closely with the Collective Leads, Architects and Engineering Leads to ensure delivery aligns with technical standards and strategic direction.
• Oversee release planning, deployment activities, and operational readiness.
• Support cloud transformation, platform modernisation, and technical debt reduction initiatives.

Risk & Governance

• Manage project risks, issues, assumptions, and dependencies.
• Ensure compliance with organisational governance, security, and regulatory requirements.
• Drive continuous improvement in delivery processes, tooling, and metrics.

About you

• Experienced as a Technical Delivery Lead delivering complex technology projects and programs, who has a strong background in software architecture, software development, business analysis, and project coordination.
• Be organized, proactive, and thrive in a fast-paced, global environment.
• Previous experience coding using Microsoft technologies.
• Experience leading and mentoring others and working collaboratively to achieve collective goals.
• Worked with Microsoft technologies like C#.NET and SQL Server.
• Complete understanding and previous participation delivering software solutions utilizing the Agile Scrum methodology.
• A good understanding of the application support model.
• Previous close collaboration with quality assurance teams in multiple aspects of testing to achieve the best possible solution before it gets to user-acceptance testing.
• Experience as a problem-solver with excellent communication and presentation skills, able to explain technical concepts in plain English.
• Previous knowledge of Employee Benefits is a plus, but not essential.
• Exposure to multiple, diverse technologies and processing environments.
• High level of knowledge of all components of technical architecture.
• High level of knowledge of business process re-engineering principles and processes.
• Very strong understanding of application development methodologies.
• Strong understanding of service object architecture, object-oriented analysis and design, and/or client/server.
• Strong client-facing consultative skills, able to act as a customer advocate.
• Experience with containers (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes) technologies would be desirable.
• Good understanding of application layer protocols, such as HTTP/S, TCP/IP, UDP and Web sockets.
• Previous experience with SSO-related software such as AADConnect, ADFS, Ping Identity, OpenSSO, oAuth, Okta or other SAML & OpenID Connect providers is desirable.
• Complete understanding of Web application security and concepts, such as Ticketing, header injection, XSS, SSL, HTTPS, Kerberos, certificates, Active Directory, LDAP, reverse proxies, and firewalls.
• Hands on experience designing and deploying complex solutions, preferably in Azure but AWS, Google Cloud or other cloud providers would be beneficial.
