GIS and Remote Sensing Analyst
Department: GIS / Geospatial Analytics Experience: 4–5 years | Employment: Consultant/Freelancer Work mode: Onsite / Hybrid (as applicable)
Role overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented GIS and Remote Sensing Analyst to interpret high-resolution satellite and aerial imagery, assess changes over time, and maintain accurate spatial datasets. The role combines visual interpretation, geospatial analysis, and quality assurance to produce reliable outputs for project teams.
Key responsibilities
- Interpret high-resolution satellite and aerial imagery to identify and classify physical features and changes in the built environment.
- Compare imagery from multiple dates to assess spatial changes and document observations consistently.
- Validate interpreted features against reference datasets, flag discrepancies, and record uncertainty.
- Digitize, update, and maintain spatial features and attributes using QGIS and/or ArcGIS.
- Assess imagery suitability, considering spatial resolution, acquisition date, cloud cover, and shadows.
- Perform geospatial quality checks to ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency of deliverables.
- Prepare and manage datasets in SHP, KML/KMZ, GeoJSON, and GeoTIFF formats.
- Document methods and findings, and prepare clear maps and analytical summaries for project teams.
Required skills and experience
- 4–5 years of experience in GIS, remote sensing, or satellite image interpretation, with hands-on use of high-resolution satellite or aerial imagery.
- Strong visual interpretation skills, including recognition of built features, land disturbance, and changes in surface characteristics.
- Experience in multi-temporal image comparison, change detection, and validation against reference data.
- Proficiency in QGIS and/or ArcGIS for visualization, digitization, and spatial analysis.
- Understanding of imagery quality factors and their effect on interpretation confidence.
- Strong attention to detail, geospatial QA/QC experience, and familiarity with the GIS formats listed above.
Preferred experience
- Experience interpreting urban imagery or mapping the built environment.
- Familiarity with commercial high-resolution satellite imagery providers or platforms.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Geography, Geoinformatics, Remote Sensing, Civil Engineering, Urban Planning, or a related field.
