Job Summary

DeBra-Kuempel is seeking to fill a professional level Building Automation Systems Salesperson in our Cincinnati, Ohio location. The BAS Sales Executive is responsible for driving sales growth through consultative selling, technical expertise, and strong relationship management within the mechanical construction and building automation markets. This role combines business development, estimating support, technical knowledge, and post‑sales coordination to deliver profitable, high‑quality BAS solutions while maintaining long‑term customer relationships. This includes active prospecting, lead generation, and managing a sales pipeline through CRM tools by conducting calls, emails, meetings, demonstrations, and customer presentations.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain strong professional relationships with mechanical contractors, consulting engineers, developers, and end users to drive sustained BAS revenue growth with a prioritization on marketing strategy and high-value accounts.
  • Works with senior decision makers (directors, VPs, C-suite, etc.) to prepare accurate estimates, proposals, and project budgets by reviewing and interpreting construction plans and specifications, performing labor and material takeoffs, identifying scope gaps, and documenting assumptions and exclusions.
  • Assist with mentorship, and coaching, for specific verticals, with hardware and software engineers, estimators, and salespeople.
  • Translate technical solutions (BAS, EPMS, integration platforms) into financial and operational value propositions aligned with organizational goals.
  • Apply technical knowledge of HVAC systems and building automation systems—including controls logic, sequences of operation, integration, and product differentiators—to recommend appropriate solutions and support consultative selling.
  • Maintain awareness of BAS market trends, emerging technologies, energy conservation strategies, ROI considerations, and local competitor offerings to inform sales strategy and customer recommendations.
  • Conduct customer presentations and technical discussions in collaboration with internal teams and mechanical contractor partners to position BAS solutions effectively.
  • Evaluate project risk, pricing, and margin targets to ensure opportunities align with financial goals, and participate in contract negotiation and deal closing activities.
  • Submit substitution requests and value‑engineering recommendations for targeted projects or strategic markets when appropriate.
  • Manage multiple active estimates, sales opportunities, and bid deadlines simultaneously while maintaining organization, accuracy, and responsiveness.
  • Collaborate internally with operations, QA/QC, and service teams to ensure customer satisfaction, backlog alignment, and smooth project execution.
  • Ensure compliance with established sales‑to‑operations turnover standards and maintain complete, accurate project documentation using systems such as Procore and BidTracer.
  • Provide post‑sales customer relationship management, including coordination of handoff to service teams for ongoing support, preventative maintenance, and identification of follow‑on opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, Building Automation, or related technical field (or equivalent experience).
  • 5+ years of experience in sales and estimating or related roles within building automation systems, HVAC controls, DDC, or smart buildings industry.
  • Strong technical understanding of BAS platforms, protocols (BACnet, Modbus, LON, etc.), control sequences, mechanical/electrical systems, and integration (lighting, metering, fire, security).
  • Proficiency in take-off and estimating tools/software (e.g., Bluebeam; familiarity with ERP/CRM systems).
  • Solid knowledge of construction processes, labor rates, material pricing, and project delivery methods in commercial/industrial sectors.
  • Ability to read/interpret blueprints, specs, and control drawings.
