Job Requirements Senior Ruby on Rails Engineer (Senior Consultant, Engineering & Technical Services)

We are seeking a Senior Ruby on Rails Engineer as part of our Senior Consultant, Engineering & Technical Services career path to support the design, development, and launch of a large-scale digital benefits platform. The program includes multiple integrated workstreams, including public-facing portals, employer reporting capabilities, and internal tools that support benefits processing and administration. The work is structured around 

phased Agile delivery using sprint methodologies, with an emphasis on human-centered design, accessibility, and DevSecOps practices to support a scalable, modular architecture.  This engineer will build maintainable, accessible full-stack features within a Ruby on Rails application, contributing to form flows, data integrations, automation, and user-facing dashboards that support the delivery of critical public services.This is a fully remote role. 

 

At Fearless, this Senior Consultant collaborates with cross functional teams to align the technical vision, implementation, and quality of software systems across development, reliability, testing, and operations. This role will possess the skills to be able to bridge business objectives with technical execution in software development, infrastructure, security, and testing at an advanced application level of proficiency. The Sr. Consultant role will work on projects that allow them to ensure scalable, secure, and reliable solutions while mentoring engineers, fostering collaboration, and aligning stakeholders with product and project goals.

 

Fearless Your Responsibilities in this Role: 

●​Develop accessible, maintainable full-stack features in Ruby on Rails that support claimant and employer-facing workflows. 

●​Build complex multi-page, multi-track form flows that guide users through benefits application and reporting processes. 

●​Design and implement data models and complex validation logic to ensure accurate data capture and integrity across the platform. 

●​Develop data integrations that connect the platform with state systems and future SaaS tools selected by the client. 

●​Build user-friendly dashboards that provide clear visibility into application status, claims data, and reporting for multiple user types. 

●​Collaborate cross-functionally with engineers, designers, and product managers to refine requirements and deliver value for end-users. 

●​Provide thoughtful, constructive pull request reviews and uphold code quality, testing, and maintainability standards across the codebase. 

●​Contribute to sprint ceremonies and iterative delivery practices that align with agile methodology and state product ownership

Work Experience Project Skill and Experience Requirements

●​Minimum of 5 years of experience in full-stack software development with Ruby on Rails. 

●​Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent work experience. 

●​Proven experience building complex, multi-page form flows and data-driven user interfaces in production Rails applications. 

●​Experience building and maintaining data integrations with external systems, APIs, or third-party services. 

●​Strong background in object-oriented programming principles, including design patterns and maintainable code architecture. 

●​Experience building and maintaining data integrations within Ruby on Rails applications. 

●​Experience designing data models and implementing complex validation logic that supports business rules and user workflows. 

●​Demonstrated ability to build well-tested, extensible Rails applications using test-driven development practices. 

●​Experience collaborating with product managers, designers, and engineers in an Agile software development environment. 

Preferred Experience 

●​Experience developing accessible web applications that meet WCAG standards. 

●​Familiarity with DevSecOps practices and cloud-native development in modern web application environments.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit for extended periods while working on a computer or during meetings.
  • Must be able to travel occasionally to client sites or company meetings, which may involve driving or flying.
  • Ability to communicate effectively via phone, email, and in-person, requiring clear speech, listening, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to move within an office environment, including reaching for files, using office equipment, and occasional light lifting (up to 10 pounds).

The salary range for this position is:

Minimum Salary: $120,588

Salary Midpoint: $156,764

Maximum Salary: $195,955

Hiring Range for Role: $120,588 - $142,000

*This position is eligible for a discretionary bonus based on individual and company performance criteria.
