Company Introduction

Codebase is a young software services company with a great pool of tech-savvy developers. We started in the spring of 2018, and have been growing aggressively. We are located in Pune, India, and serve software product companies across the globe; focusing on enterprise SaaS, eCommerce, cloud, and application development.

Codebase is looking for a Senior QA Automation Engineer to own quality end-to-end for a payroll platform — from exploratory testing of complex calculation logic to building our automation framework from the ground up.

Key Responsibilities:

Manual & Exploratory Testing

  • Analyze requirements and create functional, regression, integration, and end-to-end test scenarios.
  • Perform manual and exploratory testing of payroll workflows, calculations, and business rules.
  • Validate salary, deductions, taxes, bonuses, reimbursements, payslips, and payroll processing.

Automation Framework & Scripting

  • Design and build a test automation framework from scratch using Playwright with JavaScript/TypeScript.
  • Develop and maintain reusable Page Objects, utilities, test data, and automation scripts.
  • Automate critical payroll workflows and regression scenarios.
  • Execute and troubleshoot automated tests, including failed and flaky tests.

API, Database & CI/CD

  • Perform API testing and SQL/database validation to verify data consistency.
  • Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines as part of the development workflow.

Defect Management & Reporting

  • Log, track, retest, and verify defects through closure.
  • Maintain test reports and continuously improve test coverage and automation quality.

Collaboration

  • Work closely with developers, product managers, and QA teams to identify risks and improve product quality.

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience in Software QA/Testing, with both manual and automation testing.
  • Strong experience testing web-based applications.
  • Hands-on experience with Playwright.
  • Strong programming/scripting skills in JavaScript/TypeScript.
  • Proven experience designing and building an automation framework from scratch.
  • Experience with API testing (Postman or similar).
  • Good working knowledge of SQL and database validation.
  • Familiarity with Git and general CI/CD concepts and workflows.
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.
  • Strong understanding of functional, regression, integration, and end-to-end testing.

Nice to have:

  • Experience testing Payroll, HRMS, Finance, or Accounting applications.
  • Knowledge of payroll concepts — salary structures, statutory deductions, tax calculations, bonuses, reimbursements, and compliance.
  • Working knowledge of Selenium with Java.
  • Experience with test reporting tools such as Allure.
  • Understanding of automation framework design, architecture, and best practices.

Soft Skills

  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proactive and eager to learn new technologies.
