About RiskSpan

RiskSpan is a leading source of analytics, modeling, data, and risk management solutions for the consumer and institutional finance industries. We solve complex business problems for clients including banks, mortgage-backed and asset-backed securities issuers, portfolio managers, servicers, and regulators. Our expertise spans market risk, credit risk, operational risk, and financial technology.

Role Overview

We are seeking a business-oriented Functional QA Analyst to ensure that our data-driven financial products and analytics platforms meet rigorous quality standards from a business and domain perspective. This role focuses on translating business requirements into comprehensive test strategies, validating financial calculations and data outputs, and serving as the primary bridge between business stakeholders and the engineering team. You will own the QA test strategy and work in close partnership with a dedicated data analyst who will automate DBT test cases based on your recommendations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and own the end-to-end QA test strategy, partnering with business stakeholders to translate requirements into clear, business-driven test plans and acceptance criteria.
  • Lead functional, business acceptance, and regression testing efforts, with a primary focus on validating financial calculations, data outputs, and business logic against expected outcomes.
  • Manage defect lifecycle, root cause analysis, and communication of business impact.
  • Document and maintain comprehensive test cases and test scripts.
  • Use of strong  SQL skills to independently investigate data discrepancies and validate key figures; a dedicated data analyst will execute more complex queries and build automated DBT tests based on your recommended test strategy.
  • Validating Power BI reports against underlying data.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for business stakeholders during testing cycles, communicating defect status, risks, and quality metrics in clear, non-technical terms.
  • Review data lineage and business workflows to ensure end-to-end traceability of financial data from source systems to reporting outputs.
  • Identify patterns in recurring bugs to drive long-term solutions.
  • Collaborate closely with product managers, developers and analysts to ensure requirements are met.
  • Recommend business/functional test cases that are required to attest to data quality based on business requirements; partner with the dedicated data analyst to ensure these are implemented and automated correctly.
