Purpose of the Job

  • This role is responsible for delivering network and cybersecurity engineering activities across industrial projects, from network architecture, device configuration, and system integration to security hardening, risk assessment, and compliance with applicable cybersecurity standards. The position supports reliable and secure system performance throughout design, implementation, testing, commissioning, and customer handover.
  • The role interfaces directly with customers on specific design details for non-standard solutions.
  • Provides technical coaching and mentoring to assistant engineers and actively shares knowledge with other engineers in the discipline team.
  • Supports project implementation in line with P&AS objectives, including the continuous improvement of margins, customer satisfaction, schedules, working capital, and safety performance.

2. Principal Responsibilities

  • Ensures that the required prerequisites (e.g. design inputs, tools, documentation, deliverables, schedule, and budget) are in place before work begins.
  • Produces parts of functional design specifications.
  • Produces parts of detailed design specifications.
  • Executes work assignments in accordance with applicable standards and quality systems, including implementation, testing, and documentation.
  • Coaches and supports assigned engineers to ensure they can meet the requirements of their work.
  • Monitors and controls the assigned work scope against the project plan.
  • Communicates effectively with customers to fully define and agree on project requirements.
  • Proactively recommends potential quality and efficiency improvements within the engineering group.
  • Shares technical knowledge with the project team, supervisor, own discipline, and other engineering disciplines.

• Reports progress, technical problems, and changes to the project lead engineer or principal engineer.

1. Education Required

  • A bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering or technology discipline is preferred. Acceptable fields include Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology and Computing, Electrical and Computer Engineering, or an equivalent qualification.
  • Relevant networking and cybersecurity certifications are mandatory, such as CompTIA Network+ or Security+, Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Microsoft Certified: Azure Fundamentals, or an equivalent industry-recognised qualification.

2. Work Experience Required

  • Five to seven years of relevant project experience.

3. Technical Skills & Specific Knowledge Required

Control Systems and Technical Documentation

  • Strong knowledge of distributed control systems (DCS), emergency shutdown systems (ESD), programmable logic controllers (PLC), and supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) platforms.
  • Ability to prepare functional design specifications (FDS), detailed design specifications (DDS), and system architecture drawings.

Industrial Experience and Site Delivery

  • More than five years of experience in industrial networking, industrial process-control environments, and cybersecurity audits and assessments.
  • Experience delivering cybersecurity, networking, and system services at customer sites.

Cybersecurity and Compliance

  • Experience conducting cybersecurity risk analyses and applying Linux and Windows security fundamentals.
  • Experience with antivirus, backup and recovery, network-management, and application-whitelisting solutions.
  • Knowledge of current cybersecurity standards and frameworks, including NIST, NCA, IEC 62443, and ISO 27001.

Networking and Systems

  • Experience with LAN/WAN architectures, the Purdue Model for industrial control systems, and the design and optimisation of complex LAN environments.
  • Experience selecting and configuring Cisco network switches and firewalls from vendors including Cisco, Juniper, Palo Alto Networks, and Fortinet.
  • Experience with Microsoft technologies, including Active Directory, DNS, WSUS, and Terminal Services, together with strong virtualisation expertise.
  • Ability to install and configure operator and engineering workstations, servers, domain controllers, and OPC servers and clients.
  • Ability to perform CPU-load and network-performance testing and configure server and I/O redundancy.

• Experience integrating control systems and third-party interfaces using Modbus, OPC, and other suitable communication protocols, including IP-addressing design and industrial firewall configuration.

Process Control and Troubleshooting

  • Knowledge of process-control system design and implementation.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills, with the ability to resolve complex network, application, and system-integration issues.

Professional Certifications

  • Global Industrial Cyber Security Professional (GICSP) certification.
  • At least one Cisco professional-level certification in networking, design, or security.
