Title: Network Engineer (NOAA Weather Systems)

Work Location: Silver Spring, MD – Hybrid role

Employment: Full Time

Min. Education Requirement: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience

Minimum Experience: 5+ years of experience

Clearance: Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust security clearance

Classification: Exempt / Salaried

Position Overview:

The Network Engineer supports mission-critical government network and communications infrastructure by maintaining, administering, monitoring, and optimizing network systems and connectivity services. This position is responsible for network operations, troubleshooting, configuration management, incident response, and continuous improvement activities that help ensure the secure and reliable delivery of voice, data, wireless, cellular, satellite, and collaboration services. The ideal candidate combines strong technical expertise in network engineering with excellent problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and the ability to support complex operational environments where system availability and responsiveness are essential to mission success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Configure and maintain government client networks, including routers, switches, encoders/decoders, and VPNs.
  • Design, test, and evaluate new network solutions and hardware.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, resolve, and communicate network issues.
  • Work with application teams, customers and other support teams to co-ordinate and facilitate incident triage and resolve production monitoring issues in a timely manner.
  • Manage ServiceNow tickets and service requests to ensure a resolution in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Develop standard operating procedures and user guides.
  • Identify and develop ways to improve and automate monitoring to gain operational efficiencies and improve responsiveness.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience required.
  • Current CCNA certification required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Highly organized, structured, process-oriented, and a self-starter.
  • Ability to work independently as well as with a team.
  • Minimum of 5 years supporting networking and collaboration services to include production and technical support.
  • Experience with:• Voice Over IP [VOIP] (digital-to-analog conversions, including encoders and decoders)
  • Cellular technology (4G/LTE, 5G)
  • Cellular signal automators (for signal strength, quality, signal-to-noise ratio)
  • Router and modem firmware (Cisco, Digi, Cradlepoint, Fortinet)
  • Low Earth Orbiting (LEO) satellite telecommunications
  • Ability to obtain Public Trust Security Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CCNP Certification preferred

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of the job, the incumbent will be exposed to normal demands associated with an office environment. Ability to work on a computer for long periods, and communicate with individuals by telephone, email, and face to face. This position requires the incumbent to have the ability to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust and focus.

Work Environment:

The noise level in the work environment is usually light.
