Job Description

The Analytics Engineer serves as the critical bridge between the Data Engineering platform and the business-facing analytics layer. This role is responsible for transforming reliable, pipeline-ready data into well-structured, semantically consistent analytical models that power reporting, decision-making, and self-service analytics across the organization.

 

The Analytics Engineer operates at the intersection of technical data modeling and business understanding — owning the logic, definitions, and structures that ensure data means the same thing to every stakeholder who consumes it and functioning as a translator who speaks both the languages of engineering and business.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

Data Modeling & Semantic Layer Ownership:

 

• Design, build, and maintain semantic models that translate Silver/Gold layer data into business-consumable structures.

• Define and enforce consistent business metrics, KPIs, and data definitions across reporting domains.

• Develop and manage dimensional models (fact/dimension tables, star schemas) aligned to business reporting needs.

• Own the semantic model layer in Microsoft Fabric / Power BI, ensuring performance, accuracy, and consistency.

 

Business Logic & Requirements Translation:

 

• Partner with business stakeholders to understand reporting requirements and translate them into well-structured data models.

• Validate that analytical datasets accurately reflect business rules, processes, and definitions.

• Collaborate with the BI Analyst to ensure semantic models support downstream report development without rework.

 

Documentation & Data Governance:

 

• Maintain data dictionaries, business glossaries, and metric definitions.

• Document semantic model design decisions, transformation logic, and business rule implementations.

• Support data governance initiatives by establishing and enforcing consistent naming conventions and model standards.

 

Team Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement:

 

• Work closely with the Data Engineer to align on data availability, schema design, and Gold layer outputs.

• Engage proactively with Finance, Sales, Operations, and other business teams to understand evolving data needs.

• Serve as a subject matter expert on data meaning and model structure when business stakeholders have questions about report accuracy.

 

Education & Experience

 

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or equivalent experience.

 

• Experience: 6 years of experience in analytics engineering, data modeling, or a hybrid BI/data role.

 

Knowledge, Skills, & Talents

 

Required Qualifications:

 

• ERP exposure required (such as SAP, Epicor, D365, NAV, or similar) — especially relevant given a complex multi-ERP environment.

• Strong SQL proficiency — able to write, optimize, and troubleshoot complex queries.

• Experience building semantic models — Power BI datasets, tabular models, or equivalent.

• Working knowledge of dimensional modeling concepts (star schema, slowly changing dimensions).

• Demonstrated ability to translate business requirements into data model structures.

• Strong documentation discipline — data dictionaries, transformation logic, business rule documentation.

• Ability to engage and communicate effectively with business stakeholders across functions.

• Minimum English level: C1 — role involves regular communication with US-based leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

• Experience with Microsoft Fabric and/or Databricks

• Familiarity with dbt or similar transformation frameworks

• Experience supporting a medallion architecture (Bronze → Silver → Gold)

• Understanding of data governance and MDM concepts
