Full description

Meta is seeking a Software Engineering Manager to lead multiple engineering teams delivering large-scale software systems that power Meta's family of products and platforms. In this role, you will drive technical strategy, shape roadmaps, and ensure your teams execute with speed and quality across complex, high-impact initiatives. You will partner closely with product, design, and data science to align engineering efforts with business goals, while cultivating a team culture that values engineering craft, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Manage multiple engineering teams and technical leaders delivering on large-scale projects with significant organizational dependencies and business impact
  • Actively shape technical strategy and long-term roadmap priorities by synthesizing team insights and aligning with broader organizational goals
  • Drive efficient execution against strategy by proactively identifying and resolving blockers related to vision, people, or project delivery
  • Maintain technical engagement across teams by evaluating technical direction and quality, and contributing directly where appropriate
  • Delegate key technical and product responsibilities to leads to ensure sound and timely engineering decisions are made
  • Build and grow the team by proactively sourcing, recruiting, and closing candidates, and by developing engineering leaders from within and outside the organization
  • Foster a self-reinforcing team culture that values engineering craft, healthy codebases, and efficient workflows and tooling
  • Proactively monitor and improve team health through regular feedback cycles, upward feedback, and retention efforts informed by engagement data
  • Communicate effectively across all levels of the organization, sharing relevant context and helping stakeholders understand how emerging technologies reshape what is possible
  • Model cross-functional ownership by ensuring engineers engage substantively with product, design, and data partners rather than operating in silos

Minimum Qualifications

  • 8+ years of software engineering experience, including experience in technical leadership or engineering management roles
  • 2+ years of experience managing other engineering managers or technical leaders
  • Experience recruiting, developing, and managing engineering teams, including performance management and career development
  • Experience influencing technical strategy and roadmap decisions across multiple teams or organizational areas
  • Experience communicating technical decisions and organizational context to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience building and scaling engineering organizations in ambiguous, high-growth environments
  • Track record of improving engineering efficiency through tooling, workflow improvements, or process changes adopted across teams
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize/redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements)
  • Experience adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices (e.g., risk assessment, bias mitigation, quality and accuracy reviews)
  • Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologies
  • Experience managing teams delivering on distributed systems, infrastructure, or platform-scale software projects
