Full description

Hi, we’re Back Market.

We’re here to help make tech reliable, affordable, and better than new. We're a global marketplace for refurbished devices, helping lower our collective environmental impact by providing trustworthy, affordable tech with 92% less carbon emissions than new.

Yep, you read that right. Turns out refurbished tech is way better for the planet than new. In fact, With every device purchased on Back Market, our positive impact on the planet grows. From our Customer Care representatives to our software engineer, every individual at Back Market cuts the planet — and consumers — a break. Our mission is simple: to do more with what we already have.

Are you ready to join us?

About the team

The Shipping Group owns everything that moves at Back Market – from the moment a seller configures their listings to the moment a customer's order is delivered. We're organized across two squads and one strategic program:

  • Shipping Core squad – BackShip (managed labels, carrier network, billing, warranty), transit time infrastructure, carrier optimization, and collection point UX
  • Delivery Experience (DXP) squad – Customer-facing delivery promise (PDP, Cart, Checkout), post-dispatch tracking, and delivery notifications
  • BFF program – Back Market's logistic infrastructure, which integrates our fulfillment, trade-in, and B2B operations.

Shipping Core and DXP are deeply interdependent: Shipping Core builds the rails, DXP surfaces them to customers. Our products directly impact €3.5B+ in annual GMV and every single order placed on the platform.

About the scope

We're looking for a Senior Product Manager to own BackShip – Back Market's managed shipping solution for sellers, and one of the highest-leverage infrastructure bets in the company.

BackShip is how Back Market takes control of the physical flow of goods: instead of relying on sellers to choose their own carriers, Back Market negotiates the rates, generates the labels, and manages the carrier relationship end-to-end. It's both a seller-facing product and the core infrastructure layer that will power Back Market's own fulfillment operations (BFF) at scale.

Currently, BackShip sees a minority of our sellers using the service. We aim to significantly grow this adoption rate in the coming years, which is expected to generate substantial additional revenue.

You'll own six product domains:

  • Label Generation — Generate shipment labels for every order flow via our integrations with Teliae and Intersoft; distribute labels to sellers, customers, and agents; manage Tradelines configuration
  • Delivery Services — Pickup requests, Carrier-side collection point shipping method, QR code returns (e.g. UPS US), and future delivery modes as we expand the carrier network
  • BackShip Billing — Receive and process carrier invoices; bill logistics costs back to sellers; own logistic cost data feeding CCBM and Backbox
  • BackShip Warranty — For every shipment, decide whether BM applies carrier insurance or BM's own warranty; maintain warranty configuration across carriers and markets
  • Carrier Optimization — Smart routing (greenfield initiative — not yet existing); this is yours to define and build
  • BackShip Support — Own the seller support experience for BackShip-related issues, in coordination with Seller Success

About the mission

Business Impact

  • Own business outcomes with full accountability for BackShip attachment rate, carrier operational performance, and billing accuracy
  • Increase BackShip attachment rate by understanding why sellers adopt, why they churn, and what it takes to make BackShip the obvious default
  • Develop and communicate product priorities by synthesizing insights from sellers, carrier partners, logistics market trends, and internal data

Product Leadership

  • Lead your squad – own the roadmap and execution, make decisions with your engineering team, and foster autonomy while maintaining strategic alignment
  • Contribute to Shipping Group strategy – define your team’s tactic, lead cross-squad initiatives, and influence company-level logistics OKRs
  • Be the primary BackShip voice in the BFF program – ensuring label generation, carrier integrations, and pickup orchestration

Product Development

  • Lead end-to-end lifecycle of complex features from conception to launch – including Carrier Optimization (smart routing), BackShip Billing dashboard, collection point shipping method expansion, and BFF outbound integration
  • Prioritize ruthlessly, balancing seller adoption, carrier reliability, billing accuracy, and BFF readiness — and know when operational excellence is the product

Collaboration

  • Work closely with your Engineering Manager and engineering team to deliver with quick time-to-market and optimal resources
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders – Seller Success (onboarding, adoption), Finance (carrier invoices, CCBM data), Delivery Experience (collection point UX, promise accuracy), and the BFF program team
  • Work directly with external carrier partners (Colissimo, DHL, UPS, Chronopost, Royal Mail, and others) – you are the product owner of those relationships on the integration side

User Experience

  • Constantly evaluate seller satisfaction with BackShip – understand the friction points that prevent adoption and the operational pain points that cause churn
  • Stay ahead of logistics and carrier trends – know what competitors, 3PLs, and carrier networks are doing, and bring best practices into our product
  • Master your problem space – become the go-to expert on seller shipping operations; talk regularly with sellers, monitor carrier performance data, and own the feedback loop between the field and the roadmap.

About the role

  • 5+ years in Product Management with 2+ years in logistics, carrier operations, or marketplace infrastructure – You understand how carrier networks work, how integrations are built, and what makes a managed shipping product actually get adopted by merchants
  • Track record of shipping complex operational products with business impact – You've owned adoption or attachment metrics, delivered measurable revenue outcomes, and navigated the complexity of external partner dependencies (carriers, 3PLs, integrators)
  • Experience growing B2B product adoption – You know how to move an attachment rate, not just ship features; you've worked on onboarding funnels, commercial positioning, and seller activation loops
  • Carrier and logistics ecosystem knowledge – You understand label generation, carrier API integrations, pickup orchestration, transit time mechanics, warranty and insurance models, and how SLAs are structured with logistics partners Billing and operational data fluency – You're comfortable owning a billing product; you understand invoice processing, cost allocation, and how logistics cost data feeds financial reporting (P&L, CCBM)
  • Strong data-driven mindset – You use carrier performance metrics, adoption funnels, A/B testing, and seller research to drive decisions; bonus points for SQL/data analysis skills
  • Strategic thinker with execution excellence – You can define a 3-year vision for smart routing while also unblocking a label generation bug on a Friday afternoon; you balance long-term infrastructure bets with short-term operational reliability
  • Leading without authority and tribe-level influence – You align carrier partners, finance, seller success, and engineering independently; you are trusted beyond your squad and represent BackShip credibly in cross-functional programs like BFF
  • Excellent communicator and collaborator – You can translate carrier integration complexity into clear seller value propositions, navigate commercial conversations with logistics partners, and make billing data legible to finance stakeholders
  • Passionate about sustainability and seller empowerment – Back Market's mission resonates with your personal values; you understand that scaling BackShip is not just a revenue play — it's how we make sustainable commerce operationally viable at scale
