Join our Downer Professional Services team and play a key role in delivering complex defence and national security projects that safeguard Australia’s future. 

Downer Professional Services comprises of three business units our Technical, Advisory, and Capability consulting practice, and Team Downer, which partners with CASG and NSSG as a major service provider to Defence. Together, we are a multi-disciplinary advisory and delivery partner of choice for clients across Defence and National Security.

As part of our growing team, we're seeking an experienced Technical Business Analyst to transform complex data into actionable insights that support critical business and operational decisions.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to support the delivery of complex Defence capability outcomes within a Commonwealth environment. Working as part of an integrated team, you will contribute to project planning, governance, reporting, risk management, procurement activities, and stakeholder coordination to ensure successful project delivery across the capability lifecycle.

This is an excellent opportunity for a project professional with Defence experience who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment supporting high-profile capability initiatives and engaging with a diverse range of technical, commercial, and operational stakeholders.

What You'll Do

You will play a key role in supporting project delivery activities, ensuring plans, schedules, risks, and stakeholder requirements are effectively managed and aligned to Defence governance frameworks.

  • Develop and maintain project management documentation, including project plans, schedules, status reports, and governance artefacts.
  • Monitor project progress against approved milestones, budgets, and deliverables, identifying risks, issues, and dependencies while recommending corrective actions.
  • Support procurement and contract management activities, ensuring compliance with Defence policies, processes, and contractual obligations.
  • Coordinate project meetings, stakeholder engagement activities, action tracking, and reporting requirements across government and industry stakeholders.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and support project change processes, including scope, schedule, and budget management.

About You

You are a proactive and organised project professional with experience delivering projects within Defence, government, or similarly complex environments. You have strong planning, governance, and stakeholder engagement skills and can effectively manage competing priorities while maintaining attention to detail.

You will ideally bring:

  • Demonstrated experience supporting the planning, development, and delivery of complex projects.
  • Strong knowledge of project management methodologies and their application within Defence or government environments.
  • Experience managing project schedules, risks, issues, reporting, and governance requirements.
  • Strong understanding of procurement, contract management, financial management, and risk management principles.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Tertiary qualifications in Project Management, Business, Engineering, ICT, or a related discipline.
  • Experience working within Defence, Commonwealth Government, or a large, complex organisation.
  • Knowledge of Defence capability delivery frameworks, governance processes, and project reporting requirements.
  • Experience using project management and reporting tools, including Microsoft Project.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare executive reports, presentations, briefing papers, and project documentation.
  • Strong analytical, organisational, and problem-solving capabilities.
