Project Manager

Location: Mountain View, CA

About Rune:

Every solar and wind power plant is a latent data center. Rune connects wasted power to the compute that needs it. Solar plants generate electricity the grid can't take: clipped by inverters, curtailed by operators, gone before it ever reaches a meter. Meanwhile, AI needs more power than new construction can deliver in time.

Rune deploys hardware, software, and financial solutions to put this power to work. We build modular micro data centers that install directly at solar sites, bypassing the traditional grid entirely and turning stranded power into compute. We're backed by Spark Capital, Union Square Ventures, and Lowercarbon Capital.

The Role:

Deployments at Rune move fast. Megawatts go live in weeks, not years. As a Project Manager at Rune, you will own the end-to-end delivery of RELIC deployments: taking executed site and customer agreements through site preparation, installation, energization, commissioning, and handoff to fleet operations. You are the connective tissue between Rune's commercial commitments and what happens on the ground: you translate contract requirements into deployment plans and represent Rune to our commercial partners day to day.

Key Responsibilities:

Project Planning & Scheduling

  • Own the end-to-end deployment schedule for each site, phase by phase including  site preparation, delivery, placement, electrical, server installation, networking, energization, and commissioning
  • Coordinate across supply chain, manufacturing, logistics, and site partners to hold milestones; track dependencies, lead times, and risks, and escalate early with solutions
  • Verify site readiness checklists are complete before every mobilization
  • Manage multiple concurrent deployment phases and sites without dropping detail
  • Codify field learnings into playbooks, checklists, and installation standards so every deployment is faster and more repeatable than the last
  • Help design scalable deployment processes that support a growing, concurrent pipeline of sites

Project Execution

  • Work with Field Operations team to ensure seamless RELIC placement and mechanical installation, power cabling and terminations, B300 server installation, and structured fiber installation (North/South uplinks and East/West GPU fabric)
  • Direct and coordinate third-party contractors: electricians, general contractors, fiber and connectivity providers, equipment operators, and HVAC technicians
  • Scope, schedule, and quality-check contractor work including cable tray and conduit installation, distribution panel terminations, and communications pathways
  • Oversee delivery logistics: trucking windows, telehandler/forklift scheduling, unloading zones, and staging
  • Enforce safety practices and installation quality on site: energization procedures, torque verification, circuit labeling, and fiber handling standards

Commercial Relationship

  • Serve as Rune's primary day-to-day contact with power partner operating teams
  • Translate commercial agreements (site agreements, delivery milestones, SLAs) into executable scopes of work, delivery schedules, and site readiness requirements
  • Communicate needs and requirements in both directions: what Rune needs from its partners (electrical infrastructure, communications pathways, utility coordination) and what the partner needs from Rune.
  • Run readiness reviews, site walks, and status updates; manage schedule changes, permitted delays, and scope adjustments.

Ideal Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of project management experience in modular/containerized data centers or similar field deployment environments
  • Data center commissioning or GPU/HPC cluster deployment experience
  • Working knowledge of electrical construction; comfortable with single-lines, power distribution, and energization practices
  • Familiarity with structured cabling and fiber optics (multimode fiber, MTP/MPO trunks, optical transceivers)
  • Strong organizational and scheduling discipline; fluent in Gantt-based tools (e.g., Smartsheet, MS Project, Asana) and rigorous with checklists and documentation
  • Comfortable working on active construction and industrial sites, with willingness to travel extensively during deployment windows
  • Excellent written and verbal communication

What We Offer: Competitive base and strategic ownership in what we believe will be one of the largest infrastructure build-outs of the decade.

Rune is an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees.
