Dynamic Integrated Services (DIS) is currently seeking a Network Engineer to join a team of network engineers and administrators within an operations group providing 24/7/365 network support. This team maintains and analyzes large, diverse networks consisting of Cisco routers, switches, and firewalls operating across MPLS and UVN environments dedicated to connectivity with the Department of Veterans Affairs' private network.

This position is located onsite in Martinsburg, West Virginia. After completing approximately 30–60 days of training, the regular schedule will be Wednesday through Saturday, from 9:00 PM to 7:30 AM.

Essential Duties:

• Perform hands-on troubleshooting of complex enterprise network connectivity issues across Cisco routing, switching, firewall, MPLS, VPN, and Palo Alto environments.

• Apply practical knowledge of IPv4 subnetting, including subnet masks, CIDR notation, network ranges, usable host ranges, gateways, and broadcast addresses.

• Analyze subnet configurations to identify overlapping address space, incorrect subnet masks, routing problems, and other IP-addressing issues affecting network connectivity.

• Capture and analyze network traffic through Palo Alto firewalls and other approved packet-capture tools to support troubleshooting efforts.

• Interpret packet captures to identify issues involving TCP/IP communications, ports and protocols, DNS, TCP handshakes, retransmissions, dropped packets, latency, and blocked or misrouted traffic.

• Use packet-level evidence to determine potential root causes and recommend appropriate remediation or escalation steps.

• Configure and troubleshoot access control list (ACL) rules on Palo Alto firewalls.

• Configure, support, and troubleshoot site-to-site VPNs using Cisco firewalls and/or Cisco routers, including IPsec.

• Support network environments utilizing multi-area OSPF, BGP, and MPLS.

• Configure and troubleshoot Cisco routers, switches, and firewalls through the command-line interface.

• Write, implement, test, and validate Cisco firewall and network-device configurations.

• Monitor network availability and performance using tools such as SolarWinds, NETSCOUT nGenius, and NOM.

• Perform required shift checks to verify the operational status of network components.

• Create and update documentation reflecting daily network-support activities, incidents, troubleshooting findings, and configuration changes.

• Create, manage, and follow up on incident tickets through resolution, including coordinating with telecommunications providers when circuit support is required.

• Provide clear shift-transition documentation and properly escalate unresolved or high-impact network incidents.

• Work as part of a team responsible for maintaining reliable 24/7/365 network operations.

Required Experience and Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, electronics engineering, information technology, or another relevant engineering or technical discipline is required.

• Five years of professional experience as a network engineer, network administrator, or in a comparable hands-on network operations role is required. Eight years of additional relevant experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a case-by-case basis.

• Demonstrated hands-on ability to perform IPv4 subnetting and troubleshoot IP-addressing and routing issues. Candidates should be prepared to discuss or complete practical subnetting scenarios during the interview process.

• Demonstrated experience collecting, filtering, and interpreting packet captures to diagnose real-world network problems.

• Ability to explain how packet-level evidence was used to isolate the source of a network issue and determine the appropriate resolution.

• Experience configuring and troubleshooting Palo Alto firewall policies and ACL rules.

• Experience configuring and troubleshooting Cisco routers, switches, and firewalls through the command-line interface.

• Experience troubleshooting TCP/IP, routing, switching, firewall, VPN, and general network-connectivity issues in a large enterprise environment.

• Working knowledge of OSPF, BGP, MPLS, IPsec, and site-to-site VPN technologies.

• Ability to determine whether a connectivity issue originates with an endpoint, subnet configuration, routing path, firewall policy, VPN tunnel, circuit, or upstream provider.

• Experience using enterprise network-management, monitoring, and ticketing systems.

• Strong attention to detail and the ability to clearly document troubleshooting findings, configuration changes, and resolution steps.

• Must be a team player with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a team setting or independently.

• Ability to work independently during overnight hours while following established operational and escalation procedures.

• Applicants must obtain an applicable industry-standard certification within six months of employment. Qualifying certifications may include Network+, Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), Cisco Certified Design Professional (CCDP), or Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE).

• Ability to obtain and maintain the required U.S. government Tier 4 High Risk Background Investigation.

• Preference will be given to qualified veteran candidates.

Preferred Experience & Qualifications

• Experience using Wireshark, tcpdump, Palo Alto packet-capture functionality, or comparable packet-analysis tools.

• Experience supporting site-to-site VPNs using Cisco firewalls and/or Cisco routers.

• Previous experience supporting federal-government, healthcare, or other highly regulated enterprise networks.

• Current Network+, CCNA, CCNP, CCNA Security, CCNP Security, or comparable networking certification.

• Desired experience with the following technologies:
