Data Engineer - API integrations
Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. is looking for a full-time Data Engineer to join our Life Sciences Solutions Group. This role is part of a global team that supports the overall growth of our Global Services and Support organization by delivering scalable, reliable data integrations and analytics solutions.
This role plays a strategic part in building and expanding foundational capabilities across Customer Support, Service Delivery functions and AI initiatives. You will design, build, and support API-driven data ingestion and data delivery pipelines, data lakes, and data warehouses across both on-prem and cloud environments, enabling actionable business intelligence through GenAI and operational reporting.
You’re good at:
- Building and supporting end-to-end data ingestion and transformation pipelines across on-prem and cloud environments
- Collaborating with infrastructure, IT, and business teams to support enterprise data platform solutions
- Building and maintaining API-driven integrations using AWS Lambda, API Gateway, and REST/SOAP protocols
- Writing to and updating Salesforce standard and custom objects via Salesforce APIs, including creating and optimizing SOQL queries
- Integrating with Oracle systems, including reading from and writing to Oracle tables through APIs or service interfaces
- Assembling and consolidating datasets from systems such as SAP, Salesforce, Oracle, E1, Genesys, and Service Cloud
- Developing and optimizing SQL queries for analytics and ad hoc reporting needs
- Supporting data quality, integrity, and consistency across platforms
- Troubleshooting and resolving issues in both data pipelines and API workflows
You have:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 6+ years of experience in data engineering and REST API development
- Must have experience with Databricks or Spark-based platforms
- Experience with Python, including hands on knowledge of PySpark
- Experience with data pipelines, delta lakes, and data warehouses
- Experience in developing RESTful APIs using microservices architecture
- Understanding of API security, authentication, and authorization including OAuth2
- Strong experience with SQL, including complex joins and performance tuning
- Experience with data pipelines, delta lakes, and data warehouses
- Experience with AWS services like S3, Athena, Redshift, API Gateway, Lambda, Route 53, IAM, CloudWatch, and ECS/EKS
- Strong knowledge of Git based development workflows and CI/CD pipelines and tools such as Terraform
- Experience with Docker and Kubernetes based deployments
- Familiarity with Node.js or similar backend technologies
- Experience integrating with Oracle databases or other enterprise systems via APIs
- Ability to analyze and troubleshoot large, complex datasets and integration issues
- Strong written and verbal communication skills

You may also have:
- Experience in Life Science or Service organization
- Exposure to event-driven architectures (Kafka, webhooks)
- Experience working with visualization tools such as Microsoft Power BI
