Full description

As a Staff Software Development QA Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring the functionality, reliability, performance, and overall quality of our products through a variety of testing methodologies, including manual, automated, stress, integration, and system testing.

You will be involved in both front-end and back-end verification, with a strong focus on HTTP APIs, networking, and network-layer security. You will work closely with software developers and cross-functional teams to identify issues early, troubleshoot complex problems, and ensure high-quality product releases.

Job Responsibilities

  • Analyze product features and requirements, and design appropriate test environments, developing test tools.
  • Design and execute comprehensive test cases using both manual and automated testing methodologies to ensure product quality.
  • Collaborate closely with software developers to ensure feature testing is completed according to defined procedures, requirements, and quality standards.
  • Plan and execute release testing based on project requirements, schedules, and release criteria.
  • Apply a security-minded and adversarial testing approach to identify defects, vulnerabilities, unexpected behaviors, and potential failure scenarios.
  • Troubleshoot complex software, networking, and system issues and drive them toward resolution.
  • Investigate, reproduce, track, and follow up on issues reported from customer environments and field deployments.
  • Develop, maintain, and continuously improve automated test frameworks and test scripts.
  • Contribute to improving QA processes, test coverage, test efficiency, and overall product quality.
  • Work cross-functionally with development, product, and support teams to identify root causes and prevent recurring issues.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of professional experience in Software QA, Software Development, or a related engineering role.
  • Familiarity with common network protocols and services, including DNS, TCP/UDP, SSH, RDP, VNC, and HTTP/HTTPS.
  • Working knowledge of fundamental networking concepts and technologies, including switches, routers, MAC addresses, ARP, ICMP/Ping, Traceroute, and related troubleshooting tools.
  • Understanding of basic Network and Application security concepts, including firewalls, data encryption, data integrity, authentication, and secure communications.
  • Proficiency in at least one scripting language (such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell) and one compiled programming language (such as C/C++, Golang, or Rust).
  • Good understanding of fundamental operating system concepts, including processes and threads, memory management, file systems, and sockets.
  • Hands-on experience working with both Windows and Linux operating systems.
  • Hands-on experience on GIT or SVN
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and a passion for finding defects and edge cases.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly document technical issues and communicate findings to development and other stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with virtualization technologies and VM environments.
  • Experience with cloud platforms and cloud-based infrastructure.
  • Experience developing or maintaining QA automation frameworks.
  • Experience with network security testing, penetration-style testing, or vulnerability assessment.
  • Experience testing products deployed in customer or production environments.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and integrating automated tests into software development workflows.

The Canada base salary range for this full-time position is expected to be between $121,000 - $148,000 annually. Wage ranges are based on various factors including the labour market, job type, and job level. Exact salary offers will be determined by factors such as the candidate’s subject knowledge, skill level, qualifications, and experience.
