About BD MDS (Medication Delivery Solutions)
BD MDS offers a comprehensive range of products and solutions for infusion treatments, which are utilized by up to 90% of hospitalized patients. Unlike other advanced countries such as the United States, Japan lacks nationally standardized guidelines for infusion treatments. BD MDS Japan is committed to establishing new standards for infusion therapy to enhance patient care in Japan.
Job Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Product Manager to lead the development and execution of commercial strategies across infusion therapy, catheter care, and maintenance product lines.
BD MDS Japan has a number of globally available products that have yet to be introduced to the Japanese market. This role will be responsible for leading end-to-end new product launches, including strategic planning, cross-functional alignment, and execution. This role requires close collaboration with sales and key functions such as Regulatory Affairs and Quality Assurance, as well as global and regional stakeholders, and reports directly to the Marketing Director.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive Business Growth: Maximize market opportunities through successful new product launches, contributing to the overall growth of the MDS Japan business.
- Lead Product Launches: Own and lead new product launch initiatives to achieve short- to mid-term business objectives.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Partner closely with Sales and relevant internal functions to develop and execute marketing strategies and market development initiatives.
- Strategic & Commercial Planning: Lead annual operating plan (AOP) development and mid-term strategic planning for newly launched products. Collaborate with the Marketing Director on long-term growth strategies.
- Global & Regional Alignment: Coordinate with regional (e.g., APAC) and global marketing teams to align on strategies, priorities, and execution plans.
- Financial Management: Manage marketing budgets, pricing strategies, and sales forecasts for assigned product portfolios.
- KOL Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with key opinion leaders (KOLs) to support market development and clinical adoption.
Travel
Up to 30% travel for customer visits, field engagement with sales teams, and participation in conferences and industry events.
Education & Language Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required (MBA preferred)
- Native-level Japanese and business-level English
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of product management experience in the medical device industry
- Proven track record of successful new product launches (strategy through execution)
- Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams in a matrix organization
- Experience in annual operating planning and 3–5 year strategic planning
- Strong understanding of the Japanese medical device reimbursement system
- Experience applying STP (Segmentation, Targeting, Positioning) and building sales funnels, including tracking mechanisms
- Experience designing and executing market research with external vendors
- Strong analytical skills with a results-driven and growth-oriented mindset
- Experience working in global/multinational environments with complex stakeholder management (e.g., APAC collaboration)
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience handling products under C1/C2 reimbursement categories
- Background in the pharmaceutical or healthcare industry
- Experience in consulting or strategic advisory roles
- Prior experience as a healthcare sales representative
- People management experience
- MBA or equivalent advanced degree
